Obama Releases "Long Form" Birth Certificate?

So much for our media, which has been telling us -- contrary to the actual law as I explained previously-- that Obama could not obtain original documents of his own birth records.

Succumbing to the realization -- which I also predicted -- that the "Birther" strategy was failing, the White House has purported to release this morning a "long form" birth certificate.  It looks to me like a 1961 version of the short form Certificate of Live Birth.  Here's the link to the White House page and the document, an image of which is below.

The story is not over, I'm sure, but this will help Obama, since the document was issued just days after his birth.

The ease with which the White House obtained the documents demonstrates the rank idiocy of the mainstream media, which has been feeding us a steady stream of excuses as to why Obama could not obtain the document.

Update:  For some reason people have seized on the words "[i]t looks to me like a 1961 version of the short form" as a reflection of skepticism on my part.  That was not my intent.  I merely wanted to point out that the document doesn't look all that different than the document previously released, although it does have some additional information.

My comment at Politico's Arena:
The document goes a long way, if not completely, towards quieting the issue. But the ease with which Obama was able to get the document leads one to wonder why he resisted so long. It was only when the Obama campaign saw the issue developing into a strategic nightmare that Obama took the simple and easy step of releasing an original document.

This also raises issues as to why the media repeatedly has told us that Obama was not able to obtain original documentation when clearly he was able to do so.

While the Obama campaign certainly will spin this as some sort of victory, it came at a high price to Obama in the polls.

  1. Great point on the media, Professor. This is a start, assuming it's not a fake. Remember,

Now that that's over, I hope we just concentrate on all the damage from the last 2 years. We can't afford to care about BHO past one second longer.

  3. It states his father was not a natural born citizen. Doesn't that make 0 ineligible to be president?

  4. This is very strange. We've already seen his 'Certificate of Live Birth'. It has never been in contention.

What is odd is that it isn't his 'Birth Certificate'. They tell me there is a difference between the two. Before this controversy, I honestly had never heard of a 'Certificate of Live Birth', *but* they tell me that it's not the same as a 'Birth Certificate'.

I am left to assume that since he has already released his 'Certificate of Live Birth' years ago, and this controversy *still* rages, that it truly is not the same as a 'Birth Certificate'. Who knows?

  5. So, what was the big deal? Why could this not have been released long ago? My mother was adopted, and her birth certificate was altered to show her adopted father as her father. This doesn't answer questions about nationality. His father was British. When did Obama renounce his British citizenship? Thanks to Van Halen, where are the rest of the records? Bill Whittle has a good Firewall piece about some of the unanswered questions, such as, when and where did Stanley and Barack marry? Why did she split for college so soon after his birth?

    Inquiring minds want to know.

  6. This "certificate" of live birth seems to be in order, but I am not a document expert, so I will leave that to others.

But it does create another question: if it was so easily obtained, why the three year delay? Was Obama simply letting the "little" people know that he only plays by HIS rules, not by the rules of the country? And note the date on the "certificate", April 25, 2011. Just two days ago.

What changed less than a week ago that Obama, who has steadfastly refused to produce this document, decided to now release it? Was it the fact that he was losing independents in rapid numbers?

So now we all await Obama's statement on his birth certificate. I wonder when he is going to say something on all the death and destruction from the tornados.

Maybe he is trying to quelch the news that an IED was found on a Brownsville, Texas overpass and had to be disarmed by the Brownsville, Tx. bomb squad. Can't let Janet Napolitano look foolish when she tells us the border is safer than ever.

Can someone tell me if George W. Bush gave a press conference when the military released his records after Dan Rather claimed Bush had been AWOL? What is the purpose of a presidential press conference with the release of the b.c.?

  7. WAIT JUST A MINUTE!!!

Should the name on the birth certificate be Burack Hussein Obama, II or BARRY SOETORO. If "obama" was born to Stanley Ann Dunham, and was legally adopted by Lolo Soetoro.

Here's the problem with theis birth certificate and the continuing lies:
    * Obama was indeed born in Hawaii in 1961
    * Obama was indeed adopted by Lolo Soetoro in the 1970s
    * Obama’s name was indeed changed to Barry Soetoro in the 1970s
    * Obama’s birth certificate was altered per Hawaiian law to reflect his new name in the 1970s
    * Obama never changed his name back to “Barack Hussein Obama, Jr.” — most likely because he used “Barry Soetoro” on all of his student aid applications for college, and probably received foreign student grants and admissions assistance playing off his years living in Indonesia
    * All the records, transcripts, documents, and paperwork Obama continues to hide from the public is all hidden because it lists his name as “Barry Soetoro” on all of it.
    * Obama will not allow his birth certificate to be released because it lists the “wrong” name on it: Barry Soetoro

This is MORE BS put out by the Soetoro Administration. More Lies...

  10. It's funny to watch the msm, particularly MSNBC trying to spin this as some kind of victory for Obama. I agree with your post last nite: as long as Obama thought he was winning politically on this, he wasn't going to release anything. The fact that he had to, and God help us, go before the microphones yet again, demonstrates pretty conclusively that Trump was having an impact. Does this put it to rest? Probably on this issue but not on the larger one of Obama thinking he doesn't have to play by the same rules everybody else does--and the press enabling that opinion.

    2. The BC is irrelevant -- the issue is one of "Natural Born", and as his father was not a US citizen, he does not meet that proof.

  14. To @quiznilo - There are two different types of birth documentation. The first, which Obama released in 2008 to Daily Kos (which is reason enough to believe it was a fake, IMHO), is the "Certification of Live Birth" -- that is the document to which you incorrectly refer as the "Certificate of Live Birth." It was and is NOT a "Certificate of Live Birth," but was the short-form. I have one for my son from his birth in Maryland; I had to send to the state to get his long-form Certificate of Live Birth; it is quite common for states to have both and use such confusing names!

The PDF released today is of a "Certificate of Live Birth" a.k.a. "the long-form birth certificate" or just "birth certificate." That is the document which has been sought since Hillary brought up the whole thing back in the Dem primaries in 2008.

I am sure there will be doubters, and there are LOTS of unanswered questions - not the least of which the Professor notes: the MSM has a lot of lies and covering-up to explain - but the infamous document has FINALLY been released.

To @kitty - that is the question which many have also brought up since 2008. Only the courts can answer this one. Congress could make a resolution about the interpretation of the Article in the US Constitution as to what "natural born citizen" does and does not mean. However, the SCOTUS is the proper place for this to be definitively decided. Unfortunately, there are no cases that have been allowed to be heard to-date due to "lack of standing" issues.

That problem begs the question: who DOES have standing to bring this to the courts? Many have tried, including small-party presidential candidates, veterans, military officers, citizens, Democrat lawyers, other lawyers....not one has been considered to have standing.

So the next question: should anyone ACTUALLY be found to have standing, will the SCOTUS take on the issue and resolve this question - especially in light of the 2012 election and the number of the public who question Obama's eligibility? Doubtful at best.

I personally believe, as has been commented here before, that there are legitimate questions about eligibility when one (or both) of the birth parents are NOT US citizens. There are plenty of interpretations prior to the "anchor baby" interpretation that indicate that anyone born with dual citizenship is NOT a "natural born citizen." But that is what the SCOTUS is supposed to do - resolve such questions, interpreting the US Constitution and prior precedent to properly discern the meaning and intent of the Framers.

But as I noted, to-date the SCOTUS won't take on the question or any case, begging the question: why?

  15. Maybe I'm dense, but all I see here is another "Certificate of Live Birth." Doesn't Hawaii issue "Birth Certificates?" And if so, not to put too fine a point on it, why haven't we seen Obama's?

Also, is is correct that the document shown is not acceptable for obtaining a passport? If so, that's great, the qualifications for getting a passport are more stringent than those for the President of the United States. "Everything is spinning out of control."

  16. Uh oh....this one also states father's race as "African." Back in 1961, RACE would have been written "black" or "negro," wouldn't it?

Plus, since his father was born in Kenya and never became a U.S. Citizen, this certificate also proves that Obama Jr. could not be a natural born citizen of the United States of America and thus he is, and ever shall be, ineligible for POTUS. That is, unless this COLB is a fake and the biological father is someone other than Obama Sr.

    THE RELEVANT OBAMA ADMISSION
At Barack Obama’s web site, the following admission:

    “FactCheck.org Clarifies Barack’s Citizenship

‘When Barack Obama Jr. was born on Aug. 4,1961, in Honolulu, Kenya was a British colony, still part of the United Kingdom’s dwindling empire. As a Kenyan native, Barack Obama Sr. was a British subject whose citizenship status was governed by The British Nationality Act of 1948. That same act governed the status of Obama Sr.‘s children…’ “

    Read that last line again.

“That same act governed the status of Obama Sr.‘s children…”

That’s an admission that Great Britain “governed the status” of Barack Obama, Jr. He has chosen to highlight this on his own volition.

And this leads to the relevant question:

HOW CAN A NATURAL BORN CITIZEN’S STATUS BE “GOVERNED” BY GREAT BRITAIN?

A natural born citizen’s status should only be governed by the United States.

  18. A certificate of live birth is acceptable for the purposes of obtaining a passport.

Last month my wife and I obtained a new passport for our eldest, and the first passport for our youngest. The former was born in Arizona, and the latter in Idaho. The Idaho document was a certificate of live birth.

I do agree that this is not the document that was being sought from Obama. But it is a savvy move on his part, as it will silence some (Trump) and force tho others into appearing ever more conspiracy minded (whether true or false.)

If Trump is willing to accept this as definitive it only tends to make Trump look more like Obama's personal stalking horse, raising troublesome issues only to allow the White House to safely defuse them.

Trump is not our friend or ally.

  19. Yes, Cap'n Eddie, you are dense. This is not "another" Certificate of Live Birth, it's the certificate, the first we've seen. This is what a "birth certificate" is. The real question is why we couldn't have seen it.

And no, it is not correct that this is not sufficient for getting a passport. I don't know who fed you such nonsense.

As for those peddling the nonsense that a natural born citizen can't have dual citizenship, where in the constitution do you see any such thing? There's not a hint of it anywhere. Since the 1790s it's been accepted as obvious that "natural born citizen" means anyone born in the USA, no matter who his parents are. The contrary opinion of a single congressman from the 1860s is obviously irrelevant, since he had nothing to do with framing or adopting Article II of the constitution.

Nor does it matter what happened in Indonesia. Obama was a minor, and therefore obviously incapable of renouncing his US citizenship. What kind of moron needs that explained? And we now have proof that his birth certificate was not amended.

  21. This is amazing. First, the requirements for obtaining a US passport: http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/first/first_830.html#step4first As you can see, either of the documents submitted by the Obamanians is acceptable for passport application. Second, his father's nationality/citizenship is irrelevant. Ask Michelle Malkin if you don't believe that. What is relevant is that Obama was born in the United States, and is therefore a 'natural born' US citizen. When Senor and Senora Mojado swim across the river and drop their kid in an onion field somewhere in Texas, that kid is a 'natural born' US citizen and could someday legitimately be President of these United States. Ask Michelle Malkin. She's shot her mouth off a fair amount about it. You know, I really can't stand listening to Obama; it's like listening to fingernails scratching across the blackboard; his non-verbals reek of condescending arrogance; he and his henchmen have about as much sense as Wile E. Coyote, who keeps buying products that don't work from Acme, Inc. But I gotta tell you, if The Donald is the best the so-called 'conservative' movement can do, and if this 'issue' is the most important thing the so-called 'conservative' movement can find to go nuts over, then next election I'll be voting a straight Democratic ticket. The lunatics are already running the asylum; I see no reason to turn it over to the lobotomized patients. Meanwhile, anyone have any thoughts on Petraeus taking over the CIA? Or Panetta taking over Defense? You can find that stuff on the third page, below the fold, I think, just to the left of the advertisements for tin-foil hats.

That's the same fallacy as the one found in the claim that Obama's relationship with Ayers doesn't matter because he was a child when Ayers committed his murders. Obama isn't responsible for what others did when he was a child; he is responsible for any lies he may have told about it as an adult. In this case it seems he wasn't lying after all; so we're left wondering why he stubbornly refused to release this for the past 2.5 years.

You guys who think Britain can determine whether a person born in America can be president

To be fair, that's not quite what they're claiming. They're claiming that the definition of "natural born citizen", all the way back in 1789, was someone born in the country to parents who were both citizens. That's a theory that has been held by a few people over the years, e.g. John Bingham who framed the 14th amendment. But the overwhelming majority of authoritative opinion has been that it simply means "born in the country", and the parents' nationality doesn't matter. Madison, who was in the best position to know what the clause meant, said in 1789 that "Birth [...] derives its force sometimes from place and sometimes from parentage; but in general place is the most certain criterion — it is what applies in the United States."

Blackstone, on whom the founders relied heavily, defines a "natural born subject" as anyone born under the king's protection, plus the foreign-born children of "the king's embassadors" (and presumably excluding the local-born children of foreign ambassadors).

Joseph Story, J, wrote in 1830 that "Nothing is better settled at the common law than the doctrine that the children even of aliens born in a country while the parents are resident there under the protection of the government and owing a temporary allegiance thereto are subjects by birth".

And the majority in Wong Kim Ark wrote: "It thus clearly appears that by the law of England for the last three centuries, beginning before the settlement of this country, and continuing to the present day, aliens, while residing in the dominions possessed by the crown of England, were within the allegiance, the obedience, the faith or loyalty, the protection, the power, and the jurisdiction of the English sovereign; and therefore every child born in England of alien parents was a natural-born subject, unless the child of an ambassador or other diplomatic agent of a foreign state, or of an alien enemy in hostile occupation of the place where the child was born."

" Maybe now we can get the "friendly fire" on our own side under control? "

You have a problem with people asking a simple question like, "Why all the secrets?". I see nothing wrong with people wanting to decide for themselves "who" this guy is, rather than relying on our "betters" to sell us a carefully constructed "brand".

    Hotair states,
"...proceeds to scold everyone for the monumental waste of time and distraction this has always represented:"

Of course. Because that is what Teh Won does best. Scold. Mock. Belittle.

And this is the guy corporate media tells us is "likeable" ??

The only reason it was a "monumental waste of time" was Obama's arrogance. Obama should be apologizing to the American people, not SCOLDING them.

As a pre-emptive measure on the part of the Obama Administration, I don't think this will stop people from rightly continuing to press for more disclosure about his past and his associates. Apparently, many people in America now want to decide for themselves, rather than rely on the "media" to do the "vetting" for them.

I fail to see how this is a "win" for Obama, or how it diminishes justified criticism of him and his actions/choices.

  36. I too think that Obama's release of this document now was due to a determination that, given Donald Trump's success in bringing it to mainstream conciousness, it was no longer a winning strategy for labeling his opponents as conspiracy theorists and nut cases. It had, quite simply, reached the level of diminishing returns.

But further, I believe that keeping it under wraps this long is illustrative of Obama's secretive nature - which is, in turn, both organic and calculating. He has created a fictional personal narrative for both the nation and himself, that cannot long survive factual documentation such as birth certificates and school records. If he is forced to reveal his real history the spell will be broken for his followers - but perhaps more importantly for him.

You are not alone in that sentiment.

But I must ask .... why is your ire not directed at Obama and his "handlers", when, if the publicity stunt of today is to be believed, this entire drama could have ended before the Nov 2008 elections?

Or do you fall into the camp of believers that somehow feel that Obama, being so special and all, is "above" being questioned, or having his past examined by the American people? After all, dictators do not allow their "subjects" to challenge or question them. Most politicans in representative democracies are fully aware that they will be called upon to open up their life history for inspection and criticism...which is why many people choose NOT to enter the ring.

Obama clearly felt this standard didn't apply to him.
And got a free pass on it...for years.

The real question is why it took so damn long for him to release this, and whether those who maintained for 2.5 years that he had released it are going to show even a smidgen of humility. And the answer is no, they're not.

No, it's what photocopies looked like in the 1960s. Technology has moved on.

Obama's isn't. It looks like someone took the form of the Nordyke form and transposed it on the green background.

No, it looks like someone took the original document and printed a copy onto official stock, and then certified the copy. Which is exactly what happened.

Why not just release the "certified copy" as obtained from HI?

This is the certified copy, as obtained from Hawaii. Can't you see the certification?

  40. You have a problem with people asking a simple question like, "Why all the secrets?". a carefully constructed "brand".

Exactly the opposite-- I'm sick of being attacked by the "smart" guys on my side for asking questions like "so... why is he spending cash to avoid a reasonable request?"

The most vicious attacks I've seen have been by the guys claiming it's all a brilliant ploy on Obama's part, when this would have happened years ago if they'd have quit calling anyone who questions ANYTHING about Obama a 'birther'.

The guy's entire tactics, as you point out, are directly from grade school. Typical college activist.

If folks let him frame the situation, they'll lose. If they accept "proof" that disproves something that wasn't even said, they'll lose it for our side.

For love of Pete, I never questioned that he was born in the US, but the massive stupidity that passed as "arguments" to "prove" that the question was just too far out there... not kosher. If the question is so far out there, good arguments against it should be thick on the ground and thus bad arguments are inexcusable.

  42. Wherever Obama was born, let us hope he doesn't get re-elected Stateside.

I never had much interest in the birther issue other than to believe something was amiss on account of O's team having his vital docs sealed from public scrutiny. That said, no one is coming up with a good conspiracy theory here or reprising Buckhead. Let me try:

There's a strong similarity between the mother's and physician's handwriting. The signatures appear to have a different style at first glance but, after accounting for the shortened height of "hers" in a squatter box, the underlying strokes and angles look as if they come from the same hand, tho' trying to disguise the fact-- hers looks more drawn than scrawled. The handwritten dates are even more alike.

Do we have his mother's passport from 1961 and know exactly when she was in Kenya? Perhaps she went into early labor while visiting her husband's African family, or the airlines wouldn't let her take a return flight back to the States since she was so very pregnant. In either event, she could have flown into HI a couple of days after giving birth and asked for a favor at the hospital, saying, maybe, she couldn't get to the hospital in time but that her baby was born at home in Honolulu. In the unprobable event this Certificate is inauthentic, it could be that something on the original was clearly irregular.

Last, she or her family placed a birth announcement in the local paper to safeguard the option of having the baby be considered an American citizen, or the hospital automatically sent out these announcements based on Certificates they file.

Let's make this even better. People in power with snoopy corporate-state intel resources know Obama's secret, okay, secrets, and are using their knowledge as leverage to get what they want. Rahm, Daley, Goldman, Soros, Ayers, Assad, Michelle, the Pentagon, CIA, China, Admadinejad, Columbia University, BP, and the Sand Dune lizard must all know. Hillary does, too, but couldn't use the info directly because there was just too much on the Clintons that key Dems held onto for insurance or profit.

Surely someone could do better than this and write an alien abduction and federal cover-up scenario. Might explain his ears, though. Hmmmm.

"A child born in the United States, of parent[s] of Chinese descent, who, at the time of his birth, are subjects of the Emperor of China, but have a permanent domicil[e] and residence in the United States, and are there carrying on business, and are not employed in any diplomatic or official capacity under the Emperor of China, becomes at the time of his birth a citizen of the United States."

That describes a "Native" born citizen. But not a "Natural" born citizen. I think this is pertinent and needs to be addressed by Congress. We need to define "natural born citizen" as I, for one, do not want an enemy of my country elected President again. Obama's obvious hatred of this country and of the British proves we need an American as President.

  44. "If he is forced to reveal his real history the spell will be broken for his followers - but perhaps more importantly for him."

    Highlander, you "get" it.
The entire 2008 campaign was predicated on a carefully constructed myth and an appeal to emotion over reason. Obama himself self-identified as a "blank slate" for people to write their own projections/hopes on.

That's going to be very hard to duplicate in 2012.

  46. @Placeholder

The core issue is that Obama is
    untrustworthy
    evasive
    arrogant

Clearly, that belief is gaining support, and the WH's own internal poll #'s must validate that erosion of belief in Obama's "likeability" or there would be no need for the PR stunt today.

A wise commentor on Hotair astutely observed,

"And going on TV to say this is a non-issue is kinda the opposite of how you treat non-issues.

Ampersand on April 27, 2011 at 12:58 PM"

Trump is adroitly turning this into an issue of Obama's character and integrity.

  48. Good lord, conspiracists can never let go of their cherished fantasies. In these comment, we have people who think there is some sort of mysterious meaning to the phrase, "natural born citizen," that has yet to be revealed even though the four possible sources of a definition -- the text, federal law enacted by Congress, Supreme Court decisions, and the common law all agree that it includes every person born within the US of whatever parents and lots of other people too.

We have people who cling to the ludicrous belief that because Britain offered British citizenship to Kenyans and their offspring, Obama must be a British subject.

We have people who rest their case absurdly on the choice of word order by the State of Hawaii -- Certificate of Live Birth somehow cannot mean Birth Certificate.

We have people already pouring over the minutia of the document and spinning theories to the effect that it is still a fraud.

And there are people still holding out for an even longer long form document.

Finally, like The Donald, we have people listing all the other materials Obama should release promptly, like his college grades.

Do these people not have any clue that they have jumped the shark and gone mad?

  49. The Constitution requires a natural born citizen, Art 2 Sect 1. And this 'whatever' says clearly his father was a Kenyan.

What gives? The Constitution was all about stopping a person with dual allegiance from becoming president.

  50. Burke, does one go mad after jumping the shark or jump the shark after going mad?

    Here's what mad is:

Mad is Obama refusing to release all of his birth certification, even in court challenges, one of which resulted in a US military officer being incarcerated.

Mad is how the American public feels over the fact such a cut and dry issue could drag on so long b/c we have a President who'd rather play cat-and-mouse games instead of respecting America's questions, unlike his opposing candidate who faced a similar challenge.

  51. Inconsistencies with the Nordyke CLB.

    1. Box 7c naming convention is not the same. One says Honolulu, Hawaii, the other says Honolulu, Oahu.
    2. The actual certificate number on the Nordyke form is "61 10637", the twins were born on the 5th (accepted by the registrar on the 11th. Obama certificate number is "61 10641" and he was born on the 4th (accepted by the registrar on the 8th).
    3. Box 5a - Month is abbreviated in the Nordyke certificate

  52. I just checked the official web site for Kapiolani Maternity & Gynecological Hospital

    http://www.kapiolani.org/women-and-children/about-us/default.aspx
(Better screenshot this before it's scrubbed)

and according to the information there quote: "In 1908, Albert and Emma Kauikeolani Wilcox donated $50,000 to start a children's hospital. The community, concerned that two of every seven infants in Hawai‘i did not live to see their first birthday, rallied to match the Wilcox's gift. A year later, Kauikeolani Children's Hospital opened. The two hospitals joined in 1978 to become Kapi‘olani Medical Center for Women & Children. ",

The name of the hospital at the time of his birth should have been Kauikeolani Children’s Hospital. According to the web site the name didn’t change to Kapiolani Maternity & Gynecological Hospital until Kauikeolani Children’s Hospital merged with Kapi‘olani Maternity Home in 1978. So how could his official long form birth certificate that was generated in 1961 have the name of the hospital that wasn’t created until 1978? What a fraud.
    THANKS STEVE

  53. "The document goes a long way, if not completely, towards quieting the issue. But the ease with which Obama was able to get the document leads one to wonder why he resisted so long."

Uh when your opponents insist on acting like idiots why would you stop them? You give them lots of time to get as worked up as possible, and hence as ridiculous as possible, and then you spring the evidence on them that drives home the point that these people are not serious and should not be taken seriously.

And the best part? Because the opponents in this case are conspiracy theorists they make up all new elaborate stories for why the proof isn't really proof which only furthers the idea that they are divorced from reality.

Obama just seriously rickrolled the birthers. Oh and he helped give trump a boost at the same time. All in all a very god day for Obama.

And don't forget about Jus sanguinis and Natural Born Citizenship, incarcerated Dr. Terry Lakin and the curious CT. social security number.

Curious to how Trump will eventually respond to this inept forgery...
