Stimulus to Fund 3 Huge Wind Turbines In Providence ... Made In China

Your Stimulus dollars at work, fulfilling Don Quixote's impossible dream of never being far from a windmill towards which he can tilt.

Via Providence Journal (emphasis mine):
A Chinese firm will supply three wind turbines that will be installed at the Field's Point Wastewater Treatment Facility on the Providence waterfront.

Xinjiang Goldwind Science and Technology Co. announced Monday that it had secured a deal for the three 1.5-megawatt turbines with Gilbane Building Co., the project contractor. Gilbane was selected by the Narragansett Bay Commission, the operator of the treatment plant, to put up the wind turbines as part of a $12 million renewable energy project.

Goldwind is China's second-largest turbine manufacturer after Sinovel Wind Group, according to Bloomberg News. The Shenzhen-based company has nine factories in China and has the capability to manufacture 4,000 1.5-megawatt turbines annually.

The turbines at Field's Point are expected to supply between 55 percent and 60 percent of the treatment plant's power. Installation of the turbines is being funded in part by $750,000 in federal stimulus funds.
Wind energy in Rhode Island is controversial, with manufacturers suing to prevent resulting utility increases.

Let me see if I have Obama's wind strategy straight:
We borrow money from China to buy wind turbines made in China which will increase domestic electricity rates so that our manufacturers are unable to compete with China.
Pure Genius.  Or as they say in China, 你是傻子.

  1. They're doing a huge wind project in MA, too. Now that Teddy's dead, they're even doing it off the Cape, too.

The plan, apparently, is to make everyone stop using oil by ensuring that costs skyrocket while shiny trains are made and useless wind farms are set up to accommodate the energy needs of our nation. I'm thinking this is a bad plan.

  2. "Or as they say in China, 你是傻子."

Or as we used to say in my French-speaking neighborhood growing up, "Quel tas!"

  4. Large numbers of windmills have a negative impact on the Doppler radar used in tornado detection. Since an increase in tornadoes is part of global warming (I just made that up, in case it isn't already true.) this could be serious. Advanced warning is why the St. Louis airport had a tornado and didn't lose lives. I understand tornadoes sound like freight trains in the attic, and have winds that can blow grass through glass. Might want to know if one of those is coming.

  5. Obama and his pureaucrats aren't fools, Professor. They are determined to promulgate economic and environmental Progressive policy that would leave America stranded by the roadside with empty gas tanks and wishing it had pushed harder for voter photo ID laws when it could've:

Shell Oil Company has announced it must scrap efforts to drill for oil this summer in the Arctic Ocean off the northern coast of Alaska. The decision comes following a ruling by the EPA’s Environmental Appeals Board to withhold critical air permits...

Shell has spent five years and nearly $4 billion dollars on plans to explore for oil in the Beaufort and Chukchi Seas...

  6. The wind industry is nothing more than a money laundering scheme. They just do not work.

  7. There are few if any wind turbines MANUFACTURED in the United States. Most come from Germany, Denmark, Spain and China. Incidentally less than 1% (0.9%) of the fuel used to produce electricity in the United States comes from oil. That is from the Dept. of Energy.
Regarding jobs Bill Clinton acknowlwdged the loss of jobs in Spain due to the drive to "GREEN" wind turbine installations. 2.2 jobs lost for every "GREEN" job. YIKES!!

  8. For more information on the negative impact of subsidizing "GREEN" energy projects on the economy read Dr. Jonathan Lesser's article "Gresham's Law of Green Energy". You can Google the article. Dr. Lesser has a PhD. in economics.
