Haley's Mark on 2012

Thanks to my friend Mike for a referring me to a really fascinating article on South Carolina. I really don't like playing the "who in 2012" game, since -- in my opinion -- it is way too far out to tell. However, this article did a great job of laying out the climate in an important primary state:

"[Governor] Haley won the Republican nomination running as a reformer against three white men with far more name recognition and far more seasoned political operations. In typical South Carolina style, there were also nasty whispering campaigns directed at Haley, fueled by a conservative blogger who claimed he and Haley had carried on an affair.

But rather than derail her rise, the allegations seemed to help power it. Haley ran commercials with her husband and children and offered herself as a chance to break with the state’s dark political past. She got a big lift from Palin, the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee, who defended Haley publicly and traveled to South Carolina to endorse her.

Haley said she will break with her predecessor and endorse a candidate in the Republican primary. She backed Romney in 2008, and Romney returned the favor last year. But, for now, she’s keeping her options open."

I really like Nikki Haley and I hope her opinion plays into the selection. It sounds like it will.

  1. It will as long as it's not Romney or another Blue-Blood RINO.

  2. For 2012 campaign this should be on every conservative website in BOLD letters!

The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. … Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.

  3. What! There's no half baked lefty comic that has (that includes Matthews, for that's all he has become) savaged her, yet? No Indian Jokes? No portrayals, from Tina What's-her-face?

  4. If you have the chance, listen to Haley being interviewed.

    She's the real deal.

  5. 1. A belated Happy St. Paddy's, Kathleen.

    2. Fyi, Sarah Palin mentioned Haley during her speech in India, her best since the convention afaic.

    3. Although Palin alienated me by resigning as governor, developments like this keep me from taking her completely off my list. But it will take a lot to make me move her up.

  6. Afterthought: Palin did not mention Bobby Jindal.

  7. Last Sunday Haley appeared on an episode of Army Wives playing herself as governor. Short scene where she was visiting the base in Charleston, and the base Commander's wife wanted to speak with her about 'greening' the base.

I was so pleased when she was elected and believe she is trying hard to do what is right for SC. Just hope she does what is right by endorsing the person that publicly stood by her & stood up for her when she was being trashed by members of her own party.

  8. Haley has potential to make some positive changes in the state. Her rise really tested the limits of the establishment Repubs "good ole boys" network. Even her Dem opponent was a "daddy's boy" Democrat. She was so upsetting many traditional Repub voters went with Daddy's Boy. I was shocked. They were bitter that it was Palin's endorsement that skewed her popularity, but even her close relationship with her predecessor, adulterous Mark Sanford, couldn't stop her. In state politics are cut-throat in SC, but I was shocked by the level of anxiety her rise invoke in "my" fellow Carolinians. Her detractors accused her of being Muslim and insisted many voters were supporting her because they mistakenly thought she was Native American Indian. Petty, petty stuff. So if she manages to bring the mindset of the voters up to modernity even to a small degree, she will have served the state well. They desperately need it. I'm waiting for the Leftists to come after her as they have Scott Walker because she is, indeed, the real deal and like Palin, she is JUST getting started. The future is bright, considering our long list of rising stars. I like Haley believe Romney is the most marketable candidate. I've heard him explain the Romneycare issue and while I'm afraid it will be used against him, he can explain it - and afterall, it was a STATE program, not a federal mandate - biggest difference in my book. Romney, Palin - I could handle that. Best looking ticket in world history, anyway. haha
