David Frum Says We're To Blame

David Frum knows who is to blame for what appears to be an Obamacare victory: Conservatives who refused to negotiate with Democrats even though Frum admits he has no idea if such negotiations would have resulted in a better bill.

I do know. The bill which appears likely to pass in a few hours is bad, but it is the least bad bill obtainable given the Congressional results of the November 2008 election.

Only through voter resistance in Virginia, New Jersey and particularly Massachusetts, through hundreds of town halls, through vigorous exposure of the Democrats' plans for single payer, through countless phone calls and e-mails, and through legislative vigilance were numerous even more damaging provisions stripped out.

If we had followed Frum's strategy, we would be even worse off, and we would own the monstrosity known as Obamacare.

Frum may want to own this disaster, but I don't.

  1. Frum needs to stop this charade, take off the mask and just go join the Democrats. Get it over with. We've been on to him for a while now.

  2. I guess the Professor hasn't yet reached that stage where someone is willing to admit that they (i.e., all teaparty types) have a problem. Actually, two basic problems: mental and emotional.

HCR could have been blocked or greatly modified using my plan. Instead, the leaders of the teaparties sent their charges out to wave loopy signs and throw tantrums at public meetings.

The Professor might not want to own BHOCare, but he and everyone else involved in the teaparties owns the fail.

  3. The Democrats own this debacle lock, stock and barrel. When masses of Doctors retire and there are less Americans who apply to Medical schools, we can point to the Democrats and say: You killed us all.

And David Frum? I'll listen to him when he retracts his newsweek article about Rush, until then tell him, STFU.

  4. Prof is there any worthwhile repubs having a money bomb tonight? I just sent $25 to Lynch For Congress (Wexlers seat). He's up in April. I saw him on Red Eye. Don't tell me if he's a nut case, let me enjoy. I friended Dr Benishek in MI-1.

  5. Now that the disaster that is Obamacare seems likely to become law in a few hours, I hope David Frum and his ilk are happy. As a matter of fact, I can guess that they are right now popping corks and thumbing their noses at those obstructionist Republicans. How dare they stand in the way of Obama's greatness. How dare they deny the 111th Congress their piece of history.

The wake-up call will begin shortly, once the blind and ignorant realize that there is more to health care than a government-mandated insurance card.

But, as Mr. Frum so honestly tells us, who really cares that the GOP will likely regain control? Politicians come and go, but Obamacare is forever.

How sad that our elected officials refuse to listen to and have sold out the people who were deceived into sending them to Washington to uphold their wishes.

And, for the record, what the hell is Charlie Rangel doing on the House floor? I thought he was "on leave"?

  7. Like Cain owns the murder of Abel, like Islam owns the burning of the Library at Alexandria, like Hitler owns Final Solution, like Stalin owns Soviet famine and the Gulag, like Pol Pot owns the killing fields, like the courts and quacks own the taking of millions of innocent lives since Roe v. Wade so do the Democrats own this. I can't remember the movie Pete Duel spoke the words as a bad guy in a western, "You take my money, you wear my brand."

I pray for our humility, penitence, submission to the will of God, and for God's mercy rather than God's justice.

  8. For Frum it must not be like this bill is rape rape or something like that of the individual.

  9. Frum is pathetic - it's the conservatives fault .... it is always the conservatives fault.

Note he can't say how Republican complicity would have made the bill better, but it doesn't matter ...

In other contexts, that sort of attitude is called "bigotry", Mr. Frum.

  10. Frum's argument:

The GOP should have cooperated with the Dems. The Republicans could have negotiated a plan more like RomneyCare…which is almost exactly like ObamaCare.

    FANTASTIC strategy.

  11. But think of the cocktail parties we could have had! Uh, such tragedy!

  12. We're not licked yet. Remember there's a whole bunch of lawsuits brewin once this becomes law. With any luck the Supreme Court will see reason (especially since they don't owe Obama a damn thing after the SOTU suckerpunch).

  13. In all of this, Frum is the least despicable of the despicables. That award has to go to Bart Stupak, who took to the floor of the House and slammed those who have supported him for months.

There can be no doubt in anyone's mind now that Stupak is simple a trained dog, not a Blue dog.

  14. The crystal ball reveals a future campaign stragegy for Obama. Or, was it his past campaign strategy?

It uses the same Hope, budget analysis, and regard for sustainable financing as found in the just-passed health bill. Everyone will be better off.

Just let the Republicans try to repeal a program that will make everyone a millionaire.

    Future News:

It is just weeks after Barack Obama won the 2012 election to his second term as President. White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs provided some details today about President Obama's campaign promise to "make 95% of all citizens a millionaire".

Participants must earn less than $50,000, with a net worth less than $50,000. They must be a legal resident for 3 years at the time of the grant. Illegal status will incur a $10,000 penalty in exchange for immediate citizenship. Gibbs said: "It just seems fair not to spoil such a happy event because of a technicality".

  16. I've posted this on my blog today. Sorry for the style, English is my second language.

    I want my country back!

It seems like the ultra-liberals have been able to bribe and coerce enough congress-scumbags to pass the Obamacare. And as I said before, there would be hell to pay for this monstrosity. Obamacare is the very definition of unlimited government - the threat of which was forwarned by the Founding Fathers more than two centuries ago. The federal government, which is up to its neck in debt and unfunded liabilities, decided to launch the biggest entitlement of all times – the medical care for all. The spending on this new entitlement will surely dwarf many if not most of Federal programs and will make the bankruptcy of federal and state governments inevitable. The time of reckoning is at hand, brothers and sisters. Obamacare is the last breath of the liberal order – and it’s time to take back America from the party of thieves and looters.

All patriots of this nation must stand together and fight back. United we will win! There is no blue or red America anymore – there are only those that believe in America the beautiful, America the free, America the shining city on the hill – and those that believe in welfare socialism and government tyranny. Today, we fight not only for our personal well-being – but for the dignity and honor of this country, for the right to look into the eyes of our children and say – we defended this nation from the perils of socialism. In November 2010, we will answer the crucial questions of our times - are American people worthy of the efforts of the Founding Fathers? Will American people have to right to proudly say “We are Americans” – or they will forever live in infamy and indignity of welfare socialism?

I am glad that the Democratic Party passed the Rubicon. From now on, there is no coming back for the liberal elites, no talk of compromise and middle-ground. Today, it is abundantly clear that we either will live in Obama-America or America that our Founding Father envisioned. You cannot have both.

The November elections will be the most important elections in our lifetime. If you don’t vote for America in November – you don’t deserve to be called an American.

  17. I'm on to immigration - you remember that - the issue Obama should have taken up before health care for a fuller picture of future costs.

Thousands were demonstrating for it as Congress was voting in health care. The hispanic caucus got what they wanted in the bill and the bill got their votes. Obama is coalition building day by day, law by law.

And we have had great impact in the evolution of immigration legislation as well. On my site, I have a post I put up last night titled "You have to Laugh at Obama's Delima: So Little Time - So Many Wishes." At the end is a clip from an old Lou Dobbs show back in November 2009 0r so when work was being done on immigration legislation. You should hear what was in that thing then. Now consider this bi-partisan "thing" that was announced the other day. A lot of garbage has been stripped out - unless there are two pieces of legislation that need reconciliation under the dome. That term reconciliation - I'll just bet there are people who will now go through divorce rather than deal with the term.

  18. Did Frum not notice the million and a half people march on Washington? How about the millions involved in the Tea Parties? The 20% unemployment rate? The National debt? Our AAA rating in peril? How about the f...ing people with pitchforks? What a dope!

  19. Frum's problem is simple - he was a writer for the worst-communicating President since Calvin Coolidge.

So, in a fairly substantial way, he's responsible for Barack Obama.
