Harry Reid Plays Every "ism" Card

Unbelievable. Harry Reid compares those opposed to Democratic health restructuring proposals to people who opposed freeing the slaves, granting women the right to vote, and expanding civil rights:

"Instead of joining us on the right side of history, all the Republicans can come up with is, 'slow down, stop everything, let's start over.' If you think you've heard these same excuses before, you're right," Reid said Monday. "When this country belatedly recognized the wrongs of slavery, there were those who dug in their heels and said 'slow down, it's too early, things aren't bad enough.'"

He continued: "When women spoke up for the right to speak up, they wanted to vote, some insisted they simply, slow down, there will be a better day to do that, today isn't quite right.

"When this body was on the verge of guaranteeing equal civil rights to everyone regardless of the color of their skin, some senators resorted to the same filibuster threats that we hear today."

Sometimes the foolishness speaks for itself, so I'll say nothing more, for the moment. Let it sink in. This is the Majority Leader of the Senate.

Update: Since I said I would "say nothing more, for the moment," the posting of this video does not consitute saying anything more:

  1. Ah, yes. Because it was the Republicans who supported slavery, and the Democrats who opposed it.

  2. Ending slavery, giving women the right to vote, and the civil rights movement expanded freedom and liberty.

A government takever of healthcare, by definition, reduces freedom.

It doesn't make sense to call a politcal movement that wants to steal people's freedom as progress. I wonder why do they call themselves progressives? Wouldn't "oppressives" be more accurate?

  3. First about Harry Reid:

He reminds me of a yellow journalist. This is a kind of muckraking against which it is difficult to fight. They will call you sexist or racist. It is an abomination. Did he remember that Lincoln was in at the dawn of the Republican Party?

Moving on to the subject of government waste. Congress is confident they can pay for the public component in the health care bill from savings garnered by Medicare reform and cost cutting. Government can't do that anywhere. The WASHINGTON POST reported today that the US was leaving behind equipment in Iraq that is needed in Afghanistan and under new regulations, they are permitted to do so up to a certain dollar amount. If this equipment had to be ferried all the way back to the US and if our Iraqi allies truly needed it, that would be one thing. My point here is this: If our government cannot cut waste or handle surplus any better than this, how the H... are they going to make cuts in Medicare to save both the people on Medicare and cover the cost of countless others? The government just is not set up to do this. Congress has had a cerebral accident and is disoriented.

  4. When people say such thoughtlessly stupid things as this, it's a sure sign that our side is winning. Let's rejoice as we watch Harry Reid weaving his permanent legacy of clownhood. His grandchildren will have much to talk about.

"Well, I really take more after Mom's side of the family. Those Reids were retarded."

  6. Naturally, the GOP was on the right side of history regarding past filibusters and I believe so again although theoretically universal health coverage might be done well enough. I just wonder how the MSM will cover these quotes; hoping despite experience it's better than I expect. Surprise: look for Jon Stewart to be on this.

  7. Once again, I have to remind a few people (Harry Reid?) that is was the Democrats and the Democratic Party who actually ran George McClellan against President Lincoln and advocated the separation of North from South and allowing southern states to continue slavery. But, what are historical facts in the face of propaganda and inverse bigotry. We all know what Harry meant.

Oppose Democrats and you’re a racist. And, you hate women. And, you are a Climate denier.

So, let’s move on here. Only the usual suspects with the usual lies.
