The sickest district in the US

Kathleen

It doesn't come as any surprise to me that Nancy Pelosi would rob her constituents of the glories of Obamacare. After all, wouldn't the definition of a cold-hearted politician be someone who withholds the most monumental legislation of their Congress from their own electorate? I hope someone calls Nancy Pelosi out on this cruel injustice and gives these ritzy hotel workers and restaurant owners the healthcare they deserve!

  1. I'm not a lawyer, however, I seem to recall some principle like the law is supposed to apply to everyone equally. If this is the case, then there must be some sort of process or application procedure through which every business can apply for the exemption that some businesses have managed to obtain...right???

And that being the case, then wouldn't it also be true that the grounds for exemption in one case would apply equally to all businesses? Of course, that would then mean that there is some publication that delineates the grounds under which the exemption can be obtained....I'm just saying.

  2. @John: You might be thinking of the General Welfare clause, in which laws aren't supposed to specifically benefit discrete parties ala the "Cornhusker Kickback."

Anyhow, this is NIMBY syndrome in the health care context.

  3. Kathleen. The next step would be to link names of big contributors to Pelosi's campaigns to receivers of waivers. Assuming for the sake of argument a link exists. Which I doubt. Knowing how ethical Pelosi strives to be, and all. But just to rule out any random thoughts of favoritism or special treatment, you know. Did I say I doubt something like this occurred? Well I lied.

  4. The Health and Human Services Department announced late Friday that Nevada had secured a statewide waiver from certain implementation requirements of the Obama administration’s health care law, because forcing them through, the department found, “may lead to the destabilization of the individual market.”
