Mr. Creepy, Reporter

Travel plans once again took me away from the world most of the day, but I did catch a glimpse of Dave Weigel's piece, Sarah Palin's strange, unprofessional and paranoid grudge, in which he excoriates Sarah Palin for complaining that a reporter writing a book about her rented a house right next door to her Wasilla home.

There is something strange, unprofessional and paranoid going on here, but it's not Sarah Palin.

It's creepy Joe McGinness, the author in question. I don't care how many of his accomplishments you rattle off, McGinness has crossed a line.

Move to Alaska, fine. Move to Wasilla, fine. Move next door, so that the Palins have no privacy at their own home -- not fine.

In a follow up piece, lamenting the avalanche of e-mails, Weigel makes the distinction between Weigel -- a non-public figure -- and Palin. First of all, I'm not so sure that Weigel, who writes for WaPo, is not a public figure.

Regardless, I don't want someone moving next door to Weigel to report on him. Or next door to Obama, or any other of our public figures.

Greg Sargent, another WaPo blogger, was no better in the speed with which he jumped to the defense of McGinness and attacked Palin:
Yesterday Palin launched a bizarre and rambling attack on a journalist that by any standard should make us seriously pause. Her target was award-winning journalist Joe McGinniss, who has rented the house next door to her to research a book. The short version is that she suggested he might be peeping at her kids.
Considering the severity with which Palin's kids have been mocked by the media (see my various posts on the disgusting attacks on Trig Palin), why is this not a legitimate concern. Whatever happened to leaving the kids of politicians alone?

Even public figures are entitled to privacy in their own home. McGinness has breached that privacy.

To fail to understand this distinction is to fail to understand why Palin Derangement Syndrome is strange, unprofessional and paranoid.

  2. Sorry, this is simple for me. I get really worked up when someone messes with my family or my land.

That fool would have trouble getting around, since his tires would be flat, his tank full of sugar and every time he stepped out of his house some crazy guy in a hooded mask would be beating him with a oak limb with a handle whittled down for grip.

I spent twenty years in law enforcement watching crazy people do damage to good people who let them by their inaction. Enough is enough. The left does things like this because nothing bad happens to them. It makes them feel invincible. Trust me, a solid whack and seeing stars would stop that illusion.

    Just saying...

  3. What is the obsession with trying to destroy this woman? It is not her intellect, but her connection to large segments of the population that are the bitter gun clinging bible thumping hicks the left does not understand.

Joe is an assault on the left's behalf of the first and second amendment representation in the person of Sarah Palin.

It's not about Palin. It's about Obama.

  4. This is truly mentally ill. I wonder if she can get a restraining order against him for stalking her minor children. Maybe Alaska can register him in their sexual predator database. That would be fair commupence.

  5. Sarah, give me a call. I'll gladly take some time off from work, set my Marshall stack up on your back porch (yes, they ALL go to eleven) and practice my AC/DC riffs over and over and over and over and over and over and over. it would be my luck that the dude would want to come over and play my Strat!

  6. McGinness, Weigel, and Sargent might want to heed these words from Obama on the 2008 campaign trail (regarding Bristol Palin's pregnancy)- one of the rare times I agreed with him:

"Let me be a clear as possible: I have said before and I will repeat again, I think people's families are off limits, and people's children are especially off limits...let me repeat: We don't go after people's families."

  7. Came across this old post, which is rather amusing. Palin built a 14 foot high fence to keep out an author who never bothered her and actually would not give anyone permission to bother her or her family while he spent his time gathering information for his book.
The same Palin who thought Mr. McGinnis would be kept away by a 14 foot fence also magically thinks her daughter's boyfriend will be kept away by a 2 foot baby fence (which Palin herself presented on her reality TV show). Give me a break. Do you people not see that Palin has mental problems? A characteristic of sociopaths is that they use others as tools, even their families. And Sarah has been putting her kids out in the public eye since square one, as props, human shields, and tools. Not a diagnosis, just an observation.
