Droll, Baby, Droll!

The reaction to Obama's announcement that he is opening up some offshore areas to drilling is laughable. There will be no drilling anytime soon, and the plan closes more areas to drilling than it opens.

This likely is Obama's attempt to tack to the center as the health care bill continues to stir disquiet among the masses of unwashed and unknowing knuckle-dragging Neanderthals.

Yet Obama did break a liberal intellectual and political barrier by even using the words "drill" and "offshore" in the same paragraph (for which I give him credit).

Hence the overheated reaction by the people for whom the thought of offshore drilling is as scary as an 80-year old grandmother at a Tea Party rally carrying a "Kill the Bill" sign:
  • "“Its like a kick in the face” says Jonathan Ruiz of Florida International University. Jonathan campaigned for Obama for fourteen months, and now he’s livid about today’s announcement by the administration to open half the east coast to offshore drilling."
  • "This is a foolish move, both substantively and politically. Obama is either an exceptionally bad negotiator, or he actually believes in some truly awful policy ideas. Neither of these possibilities bodes well for environmental policy."
  • "we must agree. just when the base has felt like dems can actually get their agenda on the road, obama has handed the repubbbs a give-away."
Chill, babies, chill. Nothing is happening anytime soon.

  1. Everything that Obama does or says seems to have a smell attached to it. When he says "good morning", I'm left wondering what the ulterior motive is.

For those of you who are fans of the tv show, "V", do you see a parallel?

  2. With Russia now drilling in the Gulf of Mexico or with plans to do so and with Putin in Venezuela cozying up to Chavez to re-institute Russian influence in the area, 'Bama had better brush up on his dance routine and drill more oil.

Russia is of two faces now: Putin and Medeyev (spelling)

  3. This is a cynical head-fake done with the secret collusion of the environmental organizations. They get to raise funds from their members using the offshore drilling boogeyman, but they know perfectly well not one drop of oil will be pumped from a new oil field. When the lengthy, costly environmental impact studies and such are done, Obama will regretfully announce that there is no place that qualifies for increased drilling. In the meantime he will have passed a "comprehensive energy policy" that includes massive new taxes under cap and trade, with the aid of gullible Republican goobers in Congress who think his word on drilling can be trusted. It's clever politics but I will bet a thousand dollars with anyone that not one new well will be drilled off the East Coast in the next twenty years.

  4. As I understand, he opened the areas to "exploration". In oil field terms, that is looking for evidence of oil, not drilling.

It is being said that he is doing this in order to soften the blow from the EPA which is expected to inact cap and trade without the consent of congress.

As a note, drilling for oil and the production of the substance has a very small enviromental foot print and those of us in Shreveport are begging the oil companies to drill in our backyards.

  5. still, even if there won't be drilling soon, development should not be allowed. We need to put energy into reducing consumption. We have so much room for reduction....

  6. Thank you for making A Conservative Lesbian blog of the day! You know, I think I was your blog of the day last April 1, too. I've updated the post on Obama's lies that you linked with a link to this post. I also added a link to Gov. Palin's skewering of Obama's pretenses in claiming to support offshore drilling.

  8. when I first heard about this decision, he did state that he "took 17 months to make the decision"..... it seems the man is incapable of a snap decision. He dithers way too much to be considered to have real intelligence. All smoke and mirrors... and an extremely bad sulfur like aroma.........
