Every time I try to think through a change, I put it aside because I really, really have no technological savvy.
So I'm going to get help. And that costs.
My goal is to better integrate various forms of social media with the blog, and most important, to set things up so that I can better handle the upcoming election season. I may stick with Blogspot, or may change, but regardless, I am not going to try to be the next "[fill in successful blogger name]."
I'll keep doing what I'm doing, just hopefully in a format which is even better at
So, there are now two ways of throwing money at a problem, a one-time donation, or a monthly subscription (buttons in left sidebar - could not manage to embed them in this post, which proves how much help I need).
And don't forget that on Election Day in November we are going to have the Mother of All Live Events.
P.S. If anyone has a recommendation of a really good website/social media consultant, let me know either in the Comments or by email.

Oh no. Why does this always happen to my favorite blogs? I come here 2-3 times a day to check for your posts and updates then to scroll the left side to see what the other blogs are talking about. I love this place (and your posts of course). Now it will be a slow-loading, messy fancy place that might not even load on my computer - such as has happened with Powerline Blog, Gay Patriot and Weasel Zippers.
ReplyDeleteYou have an excellent mind. I'd rather see it focused on substance over form. I genuinely see no room for improvement here.
(Sorry I'm so grumpy today.)
Okay, well maybe there's one improvement I'd like to see. It'd be pretty cool if commenters weren't moderated once they'd established they aren't spammers or nuts. :)
ReplyDelete@Becky - "slow-loading, messy fancy place" will not happen here, and I agree that is what tends to happen. In fact the layout may not change that much, but improved commenting, etc. is the goal.
ReplyDeleteI use the free version of Wordpress for my blog and I'm quite happy with it. If you want to do more, many bloggers use the commercial version (which allows much more customization) and have it hosted. Sister Toldjah does this and has a designer create her site for her; she's been quite happy with the results. You might want to contact her for advice.

ReplyDeleteGlad to read your reassurances to Becky because I have the same concerns. Old Dawgs have difficulty with change.
ReplyDeleteI'm not like the song "sitting her waitin' for the world to change."
I, too, come here for your brain power and the fact that you seem really on top of things and a moderator that is truly here - with us and approachable. That is a feeling you must not lose. That is the atmosphere that you have created that brings out so many comments and good ones too.
Can you be more specific? just "improved commenting" does not need too much investment in money and coding.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Becky about focusing on substance over form ... yea, keep on doing the good job.

Awwwww. It seems we all love you just the way you are.
ReplyDeleteAnd I guess the thanks you get for doing your blog right the first time is a fan insurrection when you want to jigger with it.
I meant to congratulation you earlier on your daughter's graduation (and job!). I know you're proud. And I know It's a 5 O'Clock World has been stuck in my head all week. So thanks for that.
I just hope you make sure to enunciate if you place a telephone ad...
