Ed Whelan "outed" law professor "Publius" causing an interesting Sunday at Memeorandum. My last post concluded that Whelan and Publius deserved each other.
Now Whelan apologizes. And Publius accepts the apology and wants to move on to covering John & Kate Plus 8 (not that there's anything wrong with that).
After all the trouble you two caused, this is it?
Not so fast. Having opened the can of worms by (Whelan) exposing the identity of someone who merely was biting at your intellectual ankles, and (Publius) hyperventilating that the sky was falling because you had to put your name to your ankle-biting, you two have created an issue that will not go away.
First Whelan was attacked for outing Publius. Now he will be attacked for apologizing, as will Publius for accepting the apology.
A pox on Annonyblogging-Gate's house.

What about Whelan thanking Publius for accepting Whelan's apology for his attacking Publius for ankle-biting of Whelan in response to Whelan's attacks on Sotomayer who Publius was defending from attackers like Whelan?
ReplyDeleteThis demands further analysis and commentary.
Hopefully, there will be many, many more chapters of this exciting story to follow.
The good professor seems to be in a constant state of outrage with someone or something.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you teach advanced "straw man" building, yes?
Or is this a purely "red meat" blog?
"Not in the top 100,000"
I'm sure you did a lot of searching to find your "attacked for apologizing" example because that blog, windsofchange.net, which has been online since 2002, doesn't even have enough traffic to generate data on Alexa.
You must be a professor of building strawmen.
ReplyDeleteThe website your link provided for your "attacked for apologizing" example is "Not in the top 100,000" per Alexa... since 2002, that site doesn't even get enough eyeballs to generate ANY data.
I'm starting to figure out that this is a pure "Red Meat" blog and you're always going to be criticizing someone or something.
And yes, that is my real name.
If you (Whelan) are going to take action (out Publius) at least commit to it. There's no back-peddling allowed in the blogosphere!
ReplyDeleteTo DaveMartin7777 - got the windsofchange.net link from Memeorandum post about the apology. Not much work involved in finding it, so no I didn't do "a lot of searching" to find it. I think you are looking for someting to criticize. Others linked by Memeorandum who have criticised the apology include Macsmind and Jules Crittendon. Check out Memeorandum, it makes a blogger's life much easier.
ReplyDeleteMemorandum, have had it for sometime thanks.
ReplyDeleteCheck out Memorandum Colors for a quick view on the blogger's views in colors... it's pretty cool (and free!).
I think my salient point is that your going to after and criticize Publius, no matter what he did or said.
"Ankle biter" classic rightwing ad hominem attack.
It's also clear you don't find the thought of a conservative apologizing very appealing.
Today's neoconservatives seem to view diplomacy or apologies as demonstrations of weakness.
I think "interim appointee" and Fox News contributor, John Bolton is a great example of that (failed) philosophy.
Dick Cheney and his lawyer David Addington are two more examples of the damage neocons can do to America.
That's probably a one of many reasons the Republican party is losing voters every year... you people make a point of not getting along and playing well with others.
That's fine with me.
Btw, instead of call "Publis" an ankle biter (who we now know has some experience with the law) why don't you apply the same intellectual rigor with him and crush his arguments as he so clearly did with Whelan?
ReplyDeleteIt seems when the rightwing hasn't got a answer they use personal attacks.
I used "ankle biter" in the post because that is the term used in Whelan's original outing post; I just assumed that people reading up on this would make the connection, since I linked to Whelan's post, but I guess I assumed too much. And I don't think the term is used exclusively by "right wing" bloggers; it's just a play on the image of a dog which won't let go or keeps at you, as in someone following everything you write with a response. I have some ankle biters of my own, from time to time.
ReplyDeleteOn any day of the week, it's better to be an ankle biter than a pillow biter. But thank you Professor for your time with the reasoned and detailed response.
ReplyDeleteAnd I wasn't kidding about Memorandum Colors, check it out if you have Foxfire for your browser.
