Call Dems Bluff On Refusing To Seat Scott Brown

In case you have not heard, the Democrats have come up with a plan to nullify temporarily the Massachusetts voters in the Senate special election on January 19, if Scott Brown wins.

As reported by the Boston Herald, interim Senator Paul Kirk is on record that he will vote for the Senate health care bill even if Brown wins the election if the vote takes place before Brown is sworn in. Massachusetts Secretary of State William Galvin has stated that the certification of the election result will be delayed at least until February 20, giving the Democrats a full month after the election to push through the health care bill without Brown being able to join a filibuster.

This scheme does not depend on the usual delay, for example, where there is a slight margin of victory in the hundreds of votes out of millions cast, where a recount and ballot challenges take time. The Democratic scheme will delay Brown's certification even if Brown is the clear winner.

Voters need to call the Democrats' bluff. The deliberate delay of Brown's certification in order to push through the health care bill will cause a political explosion unlike anything we have seen before.

There are certain red lines which no one has crossed before. And refusing to seat a duly elected Senator, for the sole purpose of excluding that Senator from voting on a particular piece of legislation, crosses that line.

Democrats are threatening to break the democratic links which bind us as a nation. The electoral outrage at such a tactic will be generational, and the Democratic leadership in Washington knows it.

If on the day of the health care vote, the duly elected Scott Brown shows up at the Senate to claim his seat for the vote, will Harry Reid instruct the Capitol Police to bar Brown from the chamber and from casting his vote? Will that be the legacy of health care "reform"?

The voters of Massachusetts need to call the Democrats bluff on this.

The Democrats have shown complete contempt for the Massachusetts voters, now it is time for the Massachusetts voters to show contempt for the Democrats who have hatched this scheme.

Added: Sorry, I forgot to say "I'm shocked!"

  3. I agree with Muser, the anger is so widespread at the rape of the Constitution by the Democratic party that we are approaching a time when good citizens are going to be taking their anger to the voting booth and if that doesn't work: to the streets.

  4. check out HillBuzz.org on their article about this. We are moderate/centerist dems FIRMLY against this RationCare Bill, and we are pissed as well if the Totalatarian aka democrats stop Scott from being seated!

and if they do this, not only will I be fundraising for every conservative, and leave the UNdemocratic party; Never again in my life will I vote for another democrat, and I am a 30+ year registered democrat. (soon to be an Independent)

I absolutely oppose this crappy DeathCare bill.

  5. I am in a similar position as Tim. My former party has lost it. Totally lost it. It began when they *S*elected Obama and it continues to worsen.

The Democratic party is currently deaf to the will of the people. This will, eventually, destroy them.

As far as I am concerned ... the MA election is a win/win. Because neither Coakley or Brown are Obots. But, one has to ponder... how did Obama become a lame duck so soon?

  6. Why do you think they're bluffing? The evidence of all that has been done over health care deform up to now indicates they are willing to do ANYTHING to get it through. That means they probably aren't bluffing.

  7. I'm sure Michael Steele and the RNC will be all over it when he comes back from his "Shut up and stop picking on me!" book tour. (I prefer to call his "What does a guy have to do to get fired around here!" tour.

  8. " Because neither Coakley or Brown are Obots."

um, Brown certainly is not. Coakley is a solid Obot. She will do what she is told. I used to be a supporter of Coakley's b/c she stood by Hillary as Obama and his thugs were pushing Hillary out during the primaries.

my fellow soon-to-be-former-democrat "Stray Yeller Dawg": the Undemocratic party is no more, these people are totalarian marxists, and completely anti-American.

Coakley is just another Obot, and now to hear Kirk say they will NOT seat Brown should he win, what is this? North Korea???

My disgust as a democrat with the UnDemocratic Party FAR exceeds the anger I had with the Bush/Cheney gang.

Today I printed out my registration form, I will be changing from a dem. to an independent, and I intend to send a copy not only to my State, but also to the UN-DNC. These people aren't even Americans at this point.

  9. Uhhh...Tim, I am sure the Dems will not miss you one bit, considering you have just called a majority of the people here in America un-American, including myself. This post is another example of a silly argument and another posting full of stipulations, weasel words, and speculations. Brown has no chance of winning, and even if he did, to not seat him immediately is not unprecedented. Those who think that the Constitution is being "rape" has never been raped before, nor a member of one of the "excluded" classes in the Constitution. And those that call health care bill "RationCare" cannot believe their health care is not being ration right now, today, this minute, and that they are subject to have whatever healthcare they have now taken from them arbitrarily

  10. Some pro-Brown independent group should be up with a commercial (at least via the net, but preferably on cable TV too) that links the Legislature's changing the law after EMK died to enable Kirk's appointment, rather than a special election, Coakley's non-campaign until last week, and the plot to delay Brown's seating as a massive show of contempt for voters.

This issue just might put Brown over the top!

Brown supporters in Mass. should also bombard Kerry with demands that he disown this disenfranchisment scheme.

Still, I have to say that if Brown wins, his vote might not be needed to kill the health bill. A half dozen wobbly Dems will take his election as a sign of the sea-change they now fear but still hope won't happen.

  11. How is this not a coup d'etat?

  12. Didn't they kind of do the same thing to Burris in Illinois? And they certainly finagled their way around the existing law regarding the interim that they had put in place to secure Teddy's seat in the interim after his death.

They'll stop at nothing. And it doesn't matter how everyone else feels; if the folks in Mass don't mind, it's going to happen.

But we all need to do everything we can to fight this fight anyway. I saw Mr. Brown on Hannity,a nd was very impressed. He seems to me like he's got the kind of style that plays well among the avergae folks in Mass, even the liberals. He refused to get nasty on Ms. Coakley, which I thought was very gracious, and yet he still sounded strong, very strong.

I myself would not count on him ultimately voting down the health care bill, but I do believe he will hold out for something that is far less horrifying than what is currently being discussed.

  13. "Uhhh...Tim, I am sure the Dems will not miss you one bit, considering you have just called a majority of the people here in America un-American, including myself"

I call it as I see it. I am an immigrant to this country, I have seen this same crap being unleashed on America as I have seen in my birth country!

Do I care that I offend you? NO.

Maybe you should start acting like an American before a democrat. And I would say the same to any Republican if they were trying to do what the Dems are trying to do. Cramming legislation, threatening to not seat people who have been elected by people.

As for Dems "missing me", millions like me have stood by this party, raised money for them, loyally voted for democrats. And I can guarantee millions of dems are fleeing this now Marxist-party.

Please, keep it up, live in your "Democrat" world. This is why the Tea Party movement is gaining strength and will continue to do so.

  14. It will be interesting to see how quickly Coakley will be sworn in if she wins the seat.

  15. Right on que, Ole Bucky is doing exactly what the fellas at HillBuzz predicted. Don't feed the trolls.

  16. Beware Buck Johnson is one of those "concern trolls". He claims that Brown is not going to win with a sneer.... but this is just a ploy of those associated with MoveOn.org to try and make those who are enthusiastic for Brown to become pessimistic.

Buck I am on to you.... and I am not a US citizen. I can see right through your tactics... and so can a lot of others who are conservative democrats who have had enough of your Marxist crap.

  17. Maggie, if you are an immigrant, then perhaps you might have firsthand exp with a "Marxist". If you have, which i doubt, becuse anyone who have lived under any kind of marxist rule will know that trying to cover the millions of poeple w/o health care, to try not to rely on telethons, charity, free clinics,, etc... to heal the sick and to offer a alternative to the profit motivated scheme called health insurance is..well anti Karl Marx. I think you should read Karl Marx, get an understanding, then you will realize that the health care debate and my comment on it on an "internet blog" is about as far from Marxist as I am physically from China.

  18. The Boston Hearald states it will be a 'political miracle" that Brown will win...kinda of like Palin and McClain.
And Tim, who has actually threaten not to seat someone? I grew up on the East Coast. I know the political will there. There is no political will to give a Kennedy seat to a Repub.. Just won't happen. If anything, if Coakley died today and Brown ran unopposed, Mass will still elect a carcass before the elect an Repub to replace an Kennedy. No one is worred about Brown winning, so why will anyone scheme not to seat him?

  19. Please Mass!!! Don't have another Al Franken/Secretary of State "ACORN RITCHIE" Control your State Lean from the MN Experience!!

  20. If Scott Brown wins, THEN worry about this.

The Republicans can shut down the Senate, if they chose. If Brown wins, and MA tries to delay, I expect that the Republicans will shut down the Senate until he joins (object to all unanimous consent actions, constantly force quorum calls, etc.). Until the situation comes up, save your energy.
