Rhode Island Still Has Its Plantations

Unlike the rest of the country, my home State of Rhode Island stayed blue, with both congressional seats going to Democrats.

Or should I say, my home State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations stayed blue.

As my readers know, there was a referendum on the ballot yesterday to enact a state constitutional amendment removing the words "and Providence Plantations" from the official state name, on the ground that the terminology was racist and/or insensitive.

As I posted before, that wording had no historical connection to slavery or slave plantations.

The referendum was defeated yesterday 78-22.

  1. This was the lone bit of sanity from the RI electorate yesterday. Of course the three bond issues totaling $200 million over the next twenty years were approved. And we (well not me) elected the one gubernatorial candidate who promised to raise taxes.

  2. If we wonder why Calif,Nev,WV and RI are going broke, today we know why.Maybe in 2012 they will look at NJ,Ohio and PA, and join in with the fun.

  3. Code Blue as usual here in MA.

And they voted down question #3 to lower state tax rate by a landslide. The message is "PLEASE TAX ME MORE".

The only state in the whole country L/P/Dems.

Middle Class voters and middle class suburbs for Baker, but not enough votes to overcome Entitlement and Pension leeches, Libs, Rich Liberal Academia, LGBT and Unions.

  4. Oddly enough, you only have to look a little north to see the light(RED). I don't know which one of the 'Ugly Sisters'is running in 2012, but she is toast.

  5. New York didn't fare much better. Horrible man elected for governor, two utterly worthless Senators. That's just the beginning. What a mess they'll be digging out of in that state over the next few years.

  6. My sympathies are with you all. I don't know how we pulled it off in PA. I live in suburban Philadelphia & the Democrat machine has been in high octane mode for weeks. I worked outside a poll yesterday and they had 3 Dems stationed there with "checkers" coming by every 30 minutes or so.

  7. Just for fun, see how your state ranks compared to CA by per capita debt.

CA is closer to being middle-of-the-road than being the worst. The worst is CT but RI is near the top too. Pardon me while I giggle.

  8. @Theresa I think the message from Mass. was 'Our sales tax is low enough but DON'T TAX MY BOOZE thank you very much.'
