Wanda Sykes' Joke Was On Us

A tongue-in-cheek look at MSNBC's fawning coverage of Barack Obama's image control at a burger joint, that's enough to send some on the Left into full-blown attack mode. At least Kraft Foods has a sense of humor, as it has issued a formal letter requesting that Obama pardon Dijon mustard users.

But wishing that someone gets kidney failure, well that's truly funny:

What was Wanda Sykes thinking? Perhaps more to the point, what was President Barack Obama thinking when he laughed and smiled as the comedienne wished Rush Limbaugh dead?

Although the Left is reporting her White House Correspondents' Dinner speech as "taking shots" at Limbaugh and mocking everyone, that's a gross misrepresentation of what turned into a hateful and disgusting diatribe....

That's way, way beyond reasoned debate or comedy and Obama's reaction to it was astonishing.

Imagine if a comedian "joked" that Obama was a terrorist who was guilty of treason and should be tortured and allowed to die. There would justifiably be an outcry.

But when the "joke" comes from a liberal, Obama-supporting comedienne and the target is a right-winger then the likes of Hilary Rosen and Donna Brazile are on CNN saying it's just comedy and Limbaugh is "fair game".

And Obama laughing when someone wishes Limbaugh dead? Hard to take from the man who promised a new era of civility and elevated debate in Washington.

The quote above is from a British commentator, who may have taken campaign promises too seriously. Don't worry about Obama going back on his promise of a new civility or change in the way politics is done in Washington.

That was just a joke. On us.

  1. Most anything I hear or see about Obama makes me think of the phrase "an iron fist in a velvet glove".

  3. The threat of kidney failure is very real for long-time prescription drug addicts. I don't think that Sykes was taking a potshot at Limbaugh but voicing a genuine concern for his health and well-being.
Or not. Don't forget, Limbaugh's made himself the target. The slings and arrows can't help themselves once the bull's eye has been pinned up.

  5. I don't think that Sykes was taking a potshot at Limbaugh but voicing a genuine concern for his health and well-being.Sorry, but I think you are carrying self-delusion to a whole new level.

Wanda Sykes has deliberately placed herself at the Janeane Garofalo and Rosanne Barr level of civil discourse, where anything goes when talking about someone you don't like.

  6. If I remember correctly during the primaries there were suppporters at McCain/Palin rallies that yelled out "Kill him" and "terrorist" while Palin stood at the podium, and all she did was flash her winning smile and go about her business. So maybe the Right has a problem with a comedienne going after precious Limbaugh, but they had no problem with people at their rallies actively calling for then presidential nominee Obama's death.

  7. Sorry, but there never was any evidence that anyone shouted "kill" at the rally, it was a hoax, see the update to my prior post, http://legalinsurrection.blogspot.com/2009/03/ezra-klein-smears-ann-althouse.html

  8. I'd like to officially start the rumor that Wanda Sykes routine was bought and paid for by the Dijon industry to discredit Mr. Obama's ability to tell what is appropriate from what is not.

    Effing capitalists mustard makers.

  9. More propaganda. No one heard such racist yelling from the location of the speakers at any McCain-Pallin rallies, but that doesn't stop the typical repeating of the lie.

Even if it occurred, it wouldn't equate, as Obama is clearly in the audience and near the speaker. Laughing.

Yes, laughing at an attack on a private citizen. Which comes from one of his own game plans out of the White House and the Saul Alinsky playbook.

The guy has no class. But we knew that with his stupid attack on Nancy Reagan.

Nothing new. It's The Chicago Way.

  10. Sykes did not wish Limbaugh dead. She made a joke equating Limbaugh's desire to see Obama fail to her wish to see Limbaugh's kidneys fail. Tough? Undoubtedly. But Limbaugh daily says harsh things about those with whom he disagrees, so I'm certain he can handle a little blowback. Did anyone take notice that most of her 15 min were spent mocking Obama, Biden and Geithner? Speaking of 15 min, I suspect someone's is about up.
Regarding spicymustardgate: So it's not really that the wimp Prez wanted fake French mustard on his burger, it's really that the media are shielding him from embarrassment. But if the media were protecting Obama how did anyone know he asked for spicy mustard? Oh that's right, it was on NBC. Do you catch the irony? The media don't want people knowing the President wants dijon mustard so they hide the fact on NBC. Get it? But you missed the larger gaffe. He asked for FRENCH fries. He is such a puss.

  11. The long whine about Dijon being left out ... perhaps NBC didn't want to ADVERTISE Dijon for free.

    DUH

  12. Sorry, but can't justify the words "seditious" or "parasite" w/r/t to Obama. There are legitimate and serious criticisms to be made, but that is going too far to me.
