Christine O'Donnell Mocks The Mockers

Everyone is talking about the new Christine O'Donnell advertisement in which she declares "I'm not a witch... I'm you."

Good or bad?

My vote is probably good, definitely not bad.

O'Donnell has been so maligned because of comments she made in the 1990s, that a game changer is needed.  The piling on -- assisted by some Republicans initially -- was so intense and continues so regularly, that ignoring the character assassination was not possible.

One way of confronting this type of belittling mockery is to mock back.

And that is what O'Donnell is doing.  She is mocking the mockers.  It is the right strategy, although there is precious little time to undo the damage.

Coons is giving O'Donnell a gift by bringing Al Franken in to campaign with him.  Nothing says "I'm the only serious candidate in the race" as much as campaigning next to the literal clown of the Senate.

After a couple of days of mocking the mockers, O'Donnell needs to attack Chris Coons with all of the millions she has accumulated -- not on the so-called Bearded Marxist stuff, but on Coons' broken promises, tax hikes and the fiscal mess he has created in New Castle county.

Coons = Harry Reid
Coons = Obamacare
Coons = Stimulus
Coons = $14 trillion of debt
Coons = Trillion dollar deficits
Coons = Forcing your children and grandchildren to pay for your mistakes.

Repeat the above every day and night until election day.

Got it?

  1. Fantastic. "I'm you" sums up my own arguments in defense of her. She is not someone groomed from an early age for a life in the Ruling Class and has none of the arrogance and condescension of that type. She isn't a Creigh Deeds, or a Charlie Crist, or a Lisa Murkowski. She is a normal person.

  2. It may be a simple case of "mocking the mockers." But I think it is better than that.

    For my money it's another way of pointing up the sexism in the opposition's language, without coming out and calling them on it. Fact is, every woman knows that it has been one he** of a long time since independent minded women have had to answer to establishment charges of witchcraft. (I don't know a one, Liberal or Conservative, that would like to return to those days.)

    Even more than that, though, this tact allows the Liberal Left (who supposedly stand for religious freedom) to mumble and fumble and stumble over why they would want to accuse someone of Witchcraft to begin with. It's a lot like accusing someone of being gay .. "not that there's anything wrong with that..."

    Well, if there's "nothing wrong with it" (whatever *it* is) then why are they making a big deal of it on the eve of an election?

    The ad, BTW, is well done. And... yes, Christine... any woman who has studied history knows that "it could be me."

  4. I like the ad. She makes the case simply that she is real, and what Washington needs, what the people of Delaware need.

    I agree that her next ads should pound the issues, making it clear that her opponent will be a Pelosi/Reid/Obama rubber stamp. Hopefully this is not too late!!!

    I think her opponent would be more of a rubber mallet. He has already established a clear record of raising taxes when he was in charge and going to be held responsible. As long as any American has a dime he'll be trying to tax it away when he is in Wash DC where no lawmaker is ever held responsible. A vote for him is a sure 100 % guaranteed vote for higher taxes. Why would anyone want that?

  6. I love the ad and am sending her a few bucks. I also agree in your strategy for her. This was a nice introductory and slightly defensive ad. From this point on it should be offense offense offense.

    Likable? Check.
    Authentic? Check.
    Good hair? Check.
    Not Harry Reid's "pet" nor a "Bearded Marxist"? Check. Check.
    Should Coons win? Check please!

O'Donnell had thirty seconds to say something relevant about the state of the nation's economy, the danger of doubling the number of self-described socialists in Congress, or something that would take the focus off of her, her personal history, and false rumors about her. The only reason to vote for O'Donnell is that she's not a big government leftist like Chris Coons. So why not focus on why he's not a viable alternative for all those independents who were just itching (or so we are told) to pull the lever for Mike Castle instead of him? Is Coons REALLY what they want?

    And the second "I'm you" was annoying and unnecessary. No, you're not me, Christine -- I would have stopped at one "I'm you" before it made you want to say "All right! We get it!

    I'm beginning to think that political consultants are nothing but failed advertising executives who could never sell consumer products effectively.

  9. Another thing I really liked about that ad, and this is just my opinion - is that she comes across as a couple of posters said her - simple, common, not groomed for the political life. Which is why I like Dr. Daniel Benishek and Sharron Angle and Lt Col Alan West - they're NOT politicians - they're people. And as a bonus (sorry Professor!), they're not lawyers.

  11. Aren't you guys the least bit embarrassed to see the pile of rubbusih you're nominated for higher opffice these days? Jeez, I'd swear you'd probably support a retarded armadillo to be president of the United States if he just had an "R" next to his name! Oh wait... you already did that...
