They are entitled to the same protected status as other recognized minority groups.
While the framers of the 14th Amendment may not have had them in mind during the drafting and ratification process, there is no historical evidence of an intent to exclude them. And anyway, that was then and this is now.
This means we have to live with them even when we don't want to, have to share bathrooms with them, have to hire them, and can't fire them unless we have a clearly documented reason.
In other words, we're stuck.
Via The Telegraph, 'Liberal gene' discovered by scientists:
The research suggests that some people have an inherent bias against conservative thinking, that is independent of their education or upbringing.
The effect is caused by a neurotransmitter in the brain called DRD4 which could be stimulated by the novelty value of left of centre opinions, say US researchers.
In people who are naturally outgoing, the feature encourages them to seek out companions with unconventional views as they grow up.Question of the Day:
This in turn means they tend to form less conventional political viewpoints as adults, according to the study by the University of California and Harvard.
If they could test for it in utero, would it change your view on abortion?-------------------------------------------

"the feature encourages them to seek out companions with unconventional views"
ReplyDeleteNotice the stereotyping of Liberals as outcasts, rebels or free thinkers. Nothing could be farther from the truth. They're the worst conformists of all, but they will have their delusions of grandeur.
"If they could test for it in utero, would it change your view on abortion?"
ReplyDeleteNo. But genetic engineering to correct mutations demonstrably harmful to the species should be fair game.
Yes, it would affect my choice as co-parent to birth the child, which is exactly what I was thinking when I read the story. In my opinion, pro-life and conservatism DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT need to belong together.
ReplyDeleteOh, Jesus, how long before liberals actually start lobbying for protected, minority status? As far as liberals being free thinkers, yeah, nothing could be further from the truth.
ReplyDeleteAnother question: does this mean that liberals are, in fact, brain damaged?
"the feature encourages them to seek out companions with unconventional views"
ReplyDeleteContradictory statement - to liberals anything non-liberal is unconventional & scary. Hence for safety sake they tend to form herds with people who think just like they do.
Well, what is liberal in their definition? Is it progressives like Barney Frank and Nancy Pelosi? Or classical liberals like Frederich Hayek and Milton Friedman?
ReplyDeleteI agree with Malcave. It doesn't change y stance on abortion, but if that receptor can be disabled in utero (or even after birth), then that would be awesome.
ReplyDeleteHowever, as much as I believe in conservatism, the fact (and history will attest), unchecked rule by the left OR the right leads to extremism. As much as I dislike liberal thought, there have been a number of liberal ideas that have benefited mankind. But left unchecked, which is what is happening today, and the world (and society) crumbles.
Seems to me this gives liberals protection under the Americans With Disabilities Act.
ReplyDeletePfftt! Millions of people overcome "unconventional thinking" (code for smarter than you when Reality and Penury smack them up side their stupid brain-pans and they go get a real job. For some, it's not until they have kids that the genetic therapy brings the healing graces of Responsibility-- which has been known to completely correct the conceit of "uncoventional" thinking.
ReplyDeleteThe problems arise from the millions of others who are shielded from recognizing their own leftist mental handicap, are provided soft landings, and suffer minimal consequences for their own actions. These Precious Snowflakes of Uniqueness, when allowed to flourish unchecked by Reality will, in time, grow to be monsters.
AHA! So it IS a genetic defect after all! Yes!!!! Woohoo!!!
ReplyDeleteBogus, just like the gay gene claim a few years back.
ReplyDeleteEven IF it were true, they would be "de" selected if this were a period of minimal technology as their disregard for consequences would thin their ranks. Remember, the libs are pushing Luddite (anti-technology) life styles which is a self correcting mechanism to limit their defective presence in the gene pool. We shall not have to put up with them for long, hence those 20% self indentifying as libs are probably the most we will ever have to put up with.
Is treatment covered under Obamacare?
ReplyDeleteAnd I thought it was a mental disease.

"Because the Only Good Progressive is a Failed Progressive"
It is also proven that many mental illnesses run in families. This is simply another.
ReplyDeleteI'm ok with liberals staying a minority...
ReplyDeleteMichael Savage just felt the thrill of vindication.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, how long before we have to subsidize them? And you know reparations aren't far behind that.
"Study of Bush's psyche touches a nerve"
ReplyDeleteA study funded by the US government has concluded that conservatism can be explained psychologically as a set of neuroses rooted in "fear and aggression, dogmatism and the intolerance of ambiguity".
As if that was not enough to get Republican blood boiling, the report's four authors linked Hitler, Mussolini, Ronald Reagan and the rightwing talkshow host, Rush Limbaugh, arguing they all suffered from the same affliction.
All of them "preached a return to an idealized past and condoned inequality".

Wait a minute. Was this study done by scientists, or by, you know, real scientists?
ReplyDeleteFrom the group that gave us AGW. . .
Well, that just means that people who lack the gene are obviously disadvantaged and therefore deserve special protections, right?
ReplyDeleteA follow up on the idiocy of this study being the same garbage as the gay gene:
ReplyDeleteLies, Damned Lies, and Medical Science
Much of what medical researchers conclude in their studies is misleading, exaggerated, or flat-out wrong. So why are doctors—to a striking extent—still drawing upon misinformation in their everyday practice? Dr. John Ioannidis has spent his career challenging his peers by exposing their bad science.
http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/print/2010/11/lies-damned-lies-and-medical-science/8269/
By the 8th paragraph Medical science, i.e. these nonsensical studies are exposed as often contradictory, just plain wrong and sometimes out right dangerous if you followed their recommendations.
“At every step in the process, there is room to distort results, a way to make a stronger claim or to select what is going to be concluded,” says Ioannidis. “There is an intellectual conflict of interest that pressures researchers to find whatever it is that is most likely to get them funded.”
Based on this, how many of you would like to put your medical care in the hands of ObamaCare committees who are tasked with disseminating or rather dictating "BEST PRACTICES" based on Medical Studies????? The same group of idiots claiming the gay gene, the liberal gene, mamograms being ineffective, Avistan breast cancer treatment ban and other PC asserted studies will be determining your medical treatment.
