A Simple "You Were Right" Will Do

I am not someone who tries to keep track of how many of my predictions have come true. That sort of gamesmanship by hindsight is beneath me.

And I don't try to settle scores with people who criticize me. That would be petty.

So it brings me absolutely no joy to point out that I was right, and Carl in Jerusalem was wrong, on the easing of the Israeli blockade of Gaza.

I bring this up solely to continue recording an accurate history of current events, not for any other purpose, and certainly not to gloat. My intentions are pure.

On Sunday, June 20, 2010, at 9:35 p.m. E.S.T., I posted Israel Outmaneuvers The Flotilla. The central thesis of the post was that Israel was the ultimate winner in the Gaza flotilla confrontation, because with the easing of the civilian aspects of the blockade the naval military blockade had been recognized as legitimate by Europe and the U.S.

To which, Carl in Jerusalem responded: "I wish Jacobson was [right], but he's not."

On June 22, 2010, at 8:37 a.m. E.S.T. I posted the now classic Tunnels for Sale, Cheap, noting that the easing of the civilian blockade was collapsing the Gaza tunnel economy and thereby a critical source of Hamas revenue.

With the benefit of dreaded hindsight, and thanks to some tips from Soccer Dad, I now am able to declare victory. Check out these two analyses:
That last link, well h/t to Carl in Jerusalem:
If we'd known this would work out so well, maybe we would have lifted the 'blockade' sooner. It seems that not everyone in Hamastan is thrilled about Israel having lifted its 'blockade' of the Gaza Strip. In fact, the Hamas rulers themselves may want the 'blockade' back.

There's only one thing missing in your post, Carl.

  1. You're right Professor! And you can take it too the bank that the Muslims will NEVER, EVER make peace with Jerusalem. This goes back as far as Israel has existed. Only the return of our Lord Christ will *change* things.

PS: I blogged today about how Obummer has appointed two devout Muslims to the Homeland Security now!! Can we impeach him YET??!!

  2. Sparky - that is outrageous.

Professor - I know you scope out Debka File daily. Hope you saw the article:

Hizballah advances 20,000 troops to Israeli border.

Oh, and you WERE indeed correct.

  3. Hamas is interested in maintaining its hold on power. It is power that makes Hamas income possible. It may well be that lifting the slightly diminishes a source of Hamas's income (even if it is by 12%), but in that part of the world it is symbolic victories that matter most. Symbolically, lifting the blockage is Hamas's, Turkish and leftist victory, ultimately helping Hamas. Besides, I am sure that the US help to Gaza will take care of any fiscal shortfall for Hamas. http://unchartedforest.blogspot.com/2010/06/gazans-spices-crisis.html
