Saturday Night Card Game (Bill Maher Out Juan-Williamses Juan Williams, Media Silence Erupts)

This is the latest in a series on the use of the race card for political gain:

Unless you spent the past 10 days high in the Himalayas worshipping the Aqua Buddha, you are aware that Juan Williams was fired from NPR, and subjected to howls of "racist" from the left-blogosphere and media, for expressing that he becomes uncomfortable when he sees people in "Muslim garb" on airplanes (he acknowledged at the same time that such fears were based on unfair stereotypes).

One high-traffic left-wing blog even referred to Williams as Fox News' "lawn jockey."  (Which was not the first time that slur was used by the left against Williams.)

Yet, there have not been similar howls regarding left-wing superstar Bill Maher, who recently expressed concern about the spread of Islam in the West, as reported by Mediaite:
Those who accuse the once libertarian Bill Maher of becoming too much of a liberal apologist might want to clean their ears. Maher made a Juan Williams-esque confession on his program when he apprehensively noted that Mohammed has just become the most popular baby name in Britain. “Am I a racist to feel alarmed by that?” Maher asked his panel. “Because I am. And it’s not because of the race, it’s because of the religion. I don’t have to apologize, do I, for not wanting the Western world to be taken over by Islam in 300 years?”

Maher will get a pass because he serves other purposes.  Maher attacks Christians, Republicans, conservatives and Tea Partiers with even more vigor than he attacks Islam.

And of course, Maher is most famous of late for attempting to smite the dreaded O'Donnell of Delaware.

It seems that in the eyes of the left-blogosphere and media, "Islamophobia" is in the eye of the beholder, and that beholding is strictly partisan.

  1. I am sure the media will get right on this once they stop celebrating super-duper non-political political rally headlined by Stewart and Colbert.

  2. Juan Williams was disciplined for going off the reservation.

Maher is one of the people who delimit the reservation. As a guard rather than an inmate, he is privileged to question the boundaries.

  3. Muhammed (please beat upon him) has become the most popular name in England, and Maher thinks it will take 300 years for them to take over the West?
He's dreaming. England, and most of Europe, will be under sharia in our lifetime.

  4. This is probably the first intelligent thing Maher has said. That is probably why he was uncomfortable saying it. If someone isn't islamaphobic what's wrong with them?

  5. Let's face facts, we're not going to gain anything by pointing out the hypocrisy of the Left on this or any other issue. We're not going to stop them from doing it. Our best response is to simply stop letting ourselves be intimidated by their BS. When they yell "RAAAAACIST" yell back "SHOOOOVE IT!"

  6. Something I've been extremely curious about, exactly what race is a Muslim??

  7. Like proving that human's minority contribution to CO2 which comprises 1% of the atmosphere creates a global warming that began before the industrial revolution, Maher's comments illustrate the ongoing challenge of math for progressives and socialists.

The results of 'Muhammed' being the most common baby name in Britain (and other western European countries also) will hardly take 300 years to manifest. But then, Maher never had to fear being accused of frightening anyone with his intelligence.

Is that how you interpret this? ---

  9. I think this Mohammed baby name thing needs more context. What is the total number of Muslim births versus non-Muslim births? Maybe Muslims disproportionately name their kids Mohammed.

  10. Perhaps he just got around to reading the Cliff Notes version of Mark Steyn's America Alone.

Of course, if he was in law school he would have likely stumbled across a much shorter summary in a "cans" version somewhere . . . say, whilst preparing for his comparative international law class by "briefing" [copying] the analysis of the Canadian Human Rights Commission case tried in the British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal back in 2008. That would be covered in a section analyzing "free speech" cases, no?

By the way, the hypocricy should be the issue when dealing with the loons on the left . . . like Maher.

The stupidity is something they just can't help.

  11. DavidH . . . I just focused on your comment, as I was posting mine -- waiting for the appearance of:

"Your comment will be visible after approval."

As a result, I spilled a little of my Saturday Night Card Game drink in my damn lap!

    Good one!

  12. Funny thing is both Maher and Williams were probably at a cocktail party together not long ago yukking it up about what Islamophobes conservatives were. Strange how normal human reaction to personal safety is almost considered criminal, isn't it?

P.S. I hope Maher isn't expecting any UPS packages from Yemen.

  13. Had Maher been drummed out, Fox News would have been forced to offer him a big contract. Keep this up and we'll all have to go back to CNN or newspapers or something.

  14. DavidH:

I can't vouch for the accuracy of this information, but there's some pretty eye-popping data here:

    http://sioe.wordpress.com/2010/09/28/germany-will-become-islamic-state-says-chancellor-merkel/

Somebody I do trust is Charles Krauthammer. He recently cited an expert who predicted Muslims will be in the majority by a significant amount in Europe before the end of this century.

    ReplyDelete
  15. That expert was Bernard Lewis - considered to be the pre-eminent scholar on Islam and the Middle East alive today. He said to the German newspaper Die Welt, that "Europe will be Islamic by the end of the century".

  16. wow great find!..hadn't seen this at all..thank u!

  17. Europe will be Islamic long before it has a majority. Terrorism is a force multiplier.

  18. Bill Maher is an atheist. That's why he's missing the point, that 300 yrs., isn't the desired timeline of their plan. So he can't understand the 'hurry up clause' in their holy writings for a quick kingdom come.

My religion is based on the belief, that the Lord calls you home at His convenience. Not mine and bringing any number of innocent people I feel like with me, who may die in an extremely frightened, painful way.

Most all other religions in the United States of America are respectful of the others religion. Why are we trying to intergrate or wedge a hostile religion amongst us. Consider me an intolerant !@#$%^&. But I rebuke to leaving this earth until called BY MY LORD and not because I am considered an "Infidel" of someone elses religion. My religion never asks me to kill some to make a point, especially a faith based one.

Hatred is the nectar of the devil.

  19. maher's comment was certainly met with silence from his usually boistrous audience...it wasn't until the jokes about uncle and aunt mohammed that they were able to release their nervous laughter. gotta give him a lot of credit for speaking the unspeakable to his crowd.

@theresa: if you don't think there have been calls for the smiting of the non-believers in the history of your religion, then you don't know a heck of a lot about your religion. here is where maher is often also correct: religion IS the problem.
