Stupid

I don't know what the American Family Association is, but this is stupid:

Permits should not be granted to build even one more mosque in the United States of America, let alone the monstrosity planned for Ground Zero. This is for one simple reason: each Islamic mosque is dedicated to the overthrow of the American government.
There are serious issues with regard to radical Islam, and those who carefully use our freedoms against us. Stupid statements do not help in this battle.

  1. It's good that you called this out. For many, statements like this from AFA are going to make all Ground Zero mosque opponents out to be bigots. Unfortunately, many (on both sides of the debate) are using the controversy for their own political purposes.

  2. Perhaps, dear Prof. Jacobson, the editorial to which you refer is being a bit too *blunt* with the facts?

If you (and this can be construed as the "royal you") don't agree with the intentions of the Ground Zero Mosque being built for the purposes of "Islamic outreach," then for what other reason is it being built?

While I realize that the war of words is all about carefully-crafted language, was the "stupidity" in the presentation versus the content?

If not to integrate Sharia Law into America; if not to integrate terrorists into America; what else is the point of this mosque?

Also, a double-exit question: Why aren't there more "moderate" Muslims -- aside from one I happened to have seen on FoxNews a few days ago -- speaking out against jihad against America/Israel?

These are tough and imposing questions that must be answered if reality is to be faced.

    Keep up your excellent work.

  4. Im not sure why you say this is STUPID?

Yes, its true, NOT all Mosques are decicated to our overthrow, but have we not seen so many that are?

Should we take the chance we can STOP each and EVERY single attack?

  5. I will support the Ground Zero mosque the day the first christian/catholic church or synagogue opens in the entire kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Tolerance must be a two way street .. when one-sided, it is nothing more than submission.

  6. I think the Hamas founder's son who was recently granted asylum in the US stated on a radio show he didn't think the Koran should be allowed in the US. I don't know if he is a memeber of the AFA.

Germany just closed a mosque because of terrorist activity.

I like Greg Gutfield's idea of building a gay bar nearby.

  7. Suze, maybe you should do some reading, and preferably something a little more sane than whatevers convinced you all muslims want to overthrow the US government. Two of my friends are muslims and trust me, they're not running sinister plots. They listen to Green Day and do everything that my non-muslim friends do. Don't dismiss an entire religion as dangerous and hateful--it makes us all look like paranoid fools.

  8. 'Jihad' is a core tenet of Islam, meaning the obligation of every Muslim to work to spread Islam (including, importantly, sharia law) to all parts of the world. Radical elements within Islam achieve this violently, as we have observed. The more moderate majority eschews violence, instead engaging in something that is an approximate, albeit imprecise, analogy of Christian evangelism.

Personal, persuasive conversion is a part of peaceful jihad (an example being the numerous 'Islam 101' ads appearing in Boston subway cars), but so is demographic subversion of the political and social systems of a 'target' nation by mass immigration -- many states in Europe have come face to face with this technique; including, for example, Great Britain: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/faith/article4749183.ece.

We face a choice. Muslims believe that their religion is superior (understandably; a faith that believes it is not ultimate truth is inherently contradictory), wish to see it expand to fill the whole globe, and are commanded to do their part to bring about such expansion. Part of the expansion of Islam is the imposition of sharia. (See: http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2010/06/026438.php) We must choose - either to reject the modern belief that all cultures are equal and to prize our Judeo-Christian heritage of liberty and self-determination; or to permit, over time, the 'alpha-ideology' of Islam to reshape our society in its image.

In the end, there is no middle path.

  9. Jessica,

They're self-professed Muslims. We all have "Muslim" friends (usually Middle Eastern folks whose parents are less strict). The best kind are the ones that don't abide by Sharia. Unfortunately, on a world scale, that makes them non-Muslims.

One hadith from the Bukhari Shareef, the most authentic Book of Hadith, further confirms unlawfulness of music and singing :
`There will be people of my Ummah who will seek to make lawful; fornication, wine-drinking and the use of ma`aazif ( musical instruments ).`

Detailed analysis of the arabic word `ma`aazif ` shows that it refers to musical instruments, the sounds of those musical instruments and singing with the accompaniment of instruments.

I don't disagree that banning all mosque construction is overboard, but let's not construe that to mean that Islam isn't quite different from any other organized religion. It is.
