Think Progress tried really, really hard to cover the Restoring Honor rally with photographers and videographers. I don't think it is a stretch to think that Think Progress was hoping beyond hope that it would find a sign or something else that would permit it to portray the rally as racist.
Apparently, Think Progress drew some really bad cards, because the focus of its video and photo coverage is a rather pathetic attempt to claim that the rally really was a "political rally":
Political Rally Or Not? We Report, You DecideBut not to mind, Think Progress also had photos of t-shirts like this one (unfortunately, TP gave no link as to where to order one):
For months, Glenn Beck has breathlessly insisted that today’s “Restoring Honor” rally was a completely non-political event. ThinkProgress attended the event and documented what we saw. Decide for yourself if Beck’s rally was non-political:
Come on Think Progress. Is that the best you got?
With all your money, you could do better! How about a little bluff? Raise the ante and at least pretend you have good cards. A headline like this would have been a good bluff:
"Racists Hide Racism At Racist Rally"All is fair in love and the card game. At least take some of your race cards from a different rally, and play them here.
It never stopped you before.

ReplyDeleteI don't know who those two women were at the very end -- from AFP? what's that? -- but the rest of the video was really good. Was it supposed to show racism? Because I didn't catch any.
ReplyDeleteThey seem almost disappointed that half a million Americans came out to reclaim Dr. King's message for ALL Americans.
ReplyDeleteMake no mistake, there was a political message, and that message is "Washington, you work for us only with our permission...and permission is denied."
""Racists Hide Racism At Racist Rally""
ReplyDeleteBest quote of the week.
Don't worry, I'm sure Think Progress will create, er, catch something on tape.
Why didn't Think Progress take the rhetorical language on the t-shirt and create a post claiming they saw a woman at the rally advocating violence against liberals? They would have had at least 20 other leftist blogs link to it by now. They're slipping.
ReplyDeleteOF COURSE it was political. "Restoring Honor" and "Reclaiming our country" are political statements. Beck was actually attempting to keep partisan politics and topical political arguments out of it. The message was much broader than the usual list of political gripes. It was transcending.
ReplyDeleteBy establishing the dubious premise that a large gathering at the Lincoln Memorial (a political backdrop if ever there was one) featuring Beck and Palin is not political, Beck invited establishment drones to argue that it WAS political and so a bad thing. Tactical mistake.
It was an inspiring non-partisan POLITICAL event and there is nothing wrong with that. Unfortunately, the political drones from the Democratic Party and the Other Democratic Party are already seizing on the faulty premise to undermine the message by lies, distortion, and ridicule.
Even Paul Mirengoff at Powerline, one of the most thoughtful and fair-minded establishment Republican blogs, wrote a disappointingly less-than-enthusiastic account of his walk-about at the rally. In fact, I would describe his tone as detached and mildly condescending. It is clearly not the account of someone who feels himself to be "one of us". He certainly didn't get caught up in the spirit.

And there are other establishment Republican bloggers who are affecting the same detached tone of amusement.

ReplyDeleteHe's generally like that with the Tea Parties, Phil, I though it was pretty fair for his side of things
ReplyDeleteIn all fairness to Powerline, I should add this morning's post by John Hinderaker who takes a more enthusiastic position.
