Wisconsin Protest Open Thread

I'll be in meetings most of the day, so I will not be able to follow the planned return of the Fleebagger14 to Madison, and the protests planned.

I'm sure they will be "massive."

Comments will be put through, so please feel free to keep each other and me up to speed in the comments.

  1. When the world is busy watching the news of the devastation out of Japan, (with tens of thousands of deaths, and, surprise--no protests, no looting, etc.) will protests by a bunch of spoiled nanny-statists make any noise?

  2. These thugs keep doing everything humanly possible to convince the wider public that, well, they're really thugs.

  3. Their hyperbolic silliness WILL catch up with them.

I haven't seen any of the predicted dead bodies of "working families" littering the landscape.

I HAVE seen a bunch of rich old hippies, well-off young idiots, and cossetted teachers who make multiples of the earnings of actual Wisconsin "working people" acting like they've been oppressed by "the man"!

That WILL come back to bite them.

  4. Never before in American history has a fight for human rights been lost," Sen. Jim Holperin said.

Senate Majority leader Scott Fitzgerald called leaving the state an insult to the hundreds of thousands of Wisconsinites who are struggling to find a job.

"Today, the most shameful 14 people in the state of Wisconsin are going to pat themselves on the back and smile for the cameras," Fitzgerald said in a statement. "They're going to pretend they're heroes for taking a three-week vacation."

Fitzgerald said that the appearance at the Capitol is in direct violation of the contempt order issued by the state Senate earlier this month, and it proves their absolute disregard for the institution of the Senate and the constitution they took an oath of office to serve.

"To the Senate Democrats: when you smile for the cameras today and pretend you're heroes, I hope you look at that beautiful Capitol building you insulted," Fitzgerald said. "And I hope you're embarrassed to call yourselves senators."

  5. Live feed now showing normal traffic.

"Rage" dissipated. "Activists" gone home or to their local tavern, or perhaps the symphony.

  6. Some good reports from Powerline and Ann Althouse and her mate Meade, who provided yeoman reporting from Madison.

  7. Wisconsin state Senate President Scott Fitzgerald, a Republican who shepherded the labor law to passage, touched off a small firestorm when he told Fox News that ending collective bargaining would affect the outcome of the 2012 presidential race. “If we win this battle and the money is not there under the auspices of the unions,” he said last week, “Obama is going to have a much … more difficult time getting elected and winning the state of Wisconsin.”
This political advantage for the GOP will harm millions in Wisconsin for decades to come. This is going to cause job loss of thousands already and harms the health and educations of a million children all for the GOP`s personal and party again. Who cares about the children or the people? The Wisconsin GOP leaders spent Friday and Saturday being honored as heroes in Washington for ending Democracy and free speech for Wisconsinites. I can only wonder why they would support David Koch and his policies not the will of the people of Wisconsin. The Koch family business made its first million building power plants under Stalin. Paying $1 a day wage. The Koch bothers are Russia God Fathers of the Russian mafia. Wisconsin has lost the Cold War. Is Michigan the next Austria? The next place Goobiner Walker invades? A communist state is a one that ends wage labor and private ownership. When the state believes it is more important than the people. Under Goobiner Walker you will not be able to tell your grandchildren what democracy was like.
