I Love It When PDS Sufferers Get Humiliated

Michael Shaw, who blogs at HuffPo, has a serious case of PDS.

Upon seeing an AP photo with a caption asserting that Sarah Palin had "her hair done during a visit to a cholera treatment center," Shaw went wild:
If I find the fantastically clever Sarah Palin to be one of the shallowest and blatantly self-serving politicians, err, political celebrities I've ever seen, it doesn't stop me from taking pause upon seeing these AP shots from Franklin Graham's cholera treatment center in Haiti.

Damn right it's revolting seeing Sarah getting her hair made up like this field hospital is her movie set ...
How much was it the Palin team's behavior, attitude or reputation that so encouraged these AP photographers (one or both local?) along with AP photo editors to suddenly drop the typical, everyday play-along (since we all get the difference between this vs. this) and deliver these scathing photo op-defying pictures of "the Sarah show?"

Well, it turns out that the person in the photo fixing Palin's hair was Palin's daughter Bristol, and Palin simply appears to be getting her hair pinned back, not getting "her hair done."

As news spread that the AP caption was deceptive, Shaw clearly was embarrassed by his rant, so he ran this update blaming AP and claimed he was a skeptic all along:
(Update 10:30pm PST: Credit is due to various commenters for clarifying that the "hairdresser" in the top photo is, in fact, Sarah Palin's daughter, Bristol. This clarification certainly raises questions about the clarity and meaning of the AP caption below stating that Palin was "having her hair done." Still, the fact that Palin's daughter was attending to Palin's hair, as opposed to a professional stylist, only reinforces the concern I raise in the last paragraph of the post about the AP's objectivity in focusing on these particular images.)
Sorry Mr. Shaw, you've been punked by the mainstream media and your own PDS.

And while you're at it, how about apologizing for this sentence in your post:  "the multiple shots of Sarah sanitizing and washing her hands suggests the former Gov is primarily concerned, above all humanitarian else, about catching something."

Unless you, of course, want to visit a cholera camp and not wash your hands.  That I'd like to see.

  1. The stupidity of the lamestream press still amazes me. Doesn't this libtard know that the main reason for constant hand-washing and sanitizing is to avoid SPREADING germs from one patient to another one?

  2. I comb my sparse expanse of hair every time I visit someone in the hospital, even when the media doesn't show up to cover my visit.

  3. Thank you for taking a hit for the team and parsing their biases. This is yet another example of why what they "print" is meaningless -- so filled with rampant partisanship that the content loses all credibility.

Somehow, I feel tainted just reading Shaw's piece second hand. :(

  4. If Sarah Palin and her family have to continue to endure this amount of crap on a day-to-day level, she may as well run for President.

  5. If Palin were to run for President, I would be tempted to vote for her just to watch these morons foam at the mouth.

  6. Wow, it takes a special kind of derangement to write a hateful article about a global celebrity on a humanitarian mission to raise awareness and financial support to alleviate human suffering. Can they go any lower?

  7. You do know that they are reworking the DSM for all sorts of psychiatric disorders, maybe they should include PDS.This way some of these sufferers might actually get the help they need. But then again to get help you first have to admit you have a problem...oh well.

  8. I commented over at patterico's, but its worth repeating...

For me the really bad part of that was this:

    > And then, the multiple shots of Sarah sanitizing and washing her hands suggests the former Gov is primarily concerned, above all humanitarian else, about catching something.

This is an out-and-out ignorant statement. Washing her hands was both self-interested and humanitarian. In fact, she was almost certainly doing what she was told. First, she is allowed to not to want to get sick, especially given she has a toddler at home. Second, if she doesn’t wash her hands, she can spread infections to others, including secondary opportunistic infections. Literally not washing her hands can cause people to die.

So that part is just deluded and ignorant, which is par for the course with PDS.

  9. The surprising thing about this is that Shaw actually is embarrassed, or seems to be. Normally these folks are immune to such feelings even when caught in a blatant lie.

  10. So, basically, this Shaw fellow is saying, "What did Sarah Palin do to make the press mad enough to lie about her?"

  11. "Shaw clearly was embarrassed by his rant"

I don't believe that is true. IMO, nothing embarrasses leftists as long as they are spreading their hatred for decent Americans.

  12. This stupidity is irremediable. It doesn't matter that they're humiliated each and every time. They want these things to be true more than they are capable of exercising caution or reason, and don't know how to do it differently. Basically, they are children. More and more I see the central dialectic of our time not being a political one, but a primitive emotional one, that is, between the adult and the child. And not educable or controllable children, but feral ones. We are living in the Lord of the Flies.

  13. I'm pretty sure this Shaw guy craps, wipes his arse with his left hand like many a muslim, and then eats with both hands.

Just a guess. What a toad.

  14. I suppose Shaw is personally offended whenever he gets blood drawn and the phlebotomist not only washes his or her hands but puts on a pair of gloves.

  15. Shaw would be in for a shock if he ever went on a cruise with P&O. In the buffet there is one attendant at either side of the entrance who stands there ready to squirt the hand sanitizer. This happens for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

It is a necessary precaution because of the possibility of the spreading of germs.

In fact if he went on the Rocky Mountaineer he would encounter the same thing with the hand sanitizer.

Most germs and viruses in particular are spread through the hands. A communicable disease such as cholera would spread like wildfire if such precautions were not being made.

Ditto for viruses such as those associated with the flu.

  16. Word has it that Obamacare had a small codicil to address PDS. Although the stated cause is somewhat blurry, the codicil relates to treatment for "any and all such maladies that are caused by excessive use of one's cognitive faculties, or a lack thereof..." No word yet on whether or not the Obama administration has moved to offer in-house treatment for staff members.
