As I pointed out in those prior posts, Grayson is a Democratic Party hero. And he still is, because he is running a television advertisement repeatedly quoting his campaign opponent, Dan Webster, saying that wives should submit to their husbands, quoting one line from the Bible.
The problem is, in reality the Republican was saying just the opposite, that people should use other verses from the Bible not that one. Comparison videos are here.
FactCheck.org puts it this way:
We thought Democratic Rep. Alan Grayson of Florida reached a low point when he falsely accused his opponent of being a draft dodger during the Vietnam War, and of not loving his country. But now Grayson has lowered the bar even further. He’s using edited video to make his rival appear to be saying the opposite of what he really said.As reported by the Orlando Sentinel:
In a new ad, Grayson accuses his Republican opponent Daniel Webster of being a religious fanatic and dubs him "Taliban Dan." But to make his case, Grayson manipulates a video clip to make it appear Webster was commanding wives to submit to their husbands, quoting a passage in the Bible. Four times, the ad shows Webster saying wives should submit to their husbands. In fact, Webster was cautioning husbands to avoid taking that passage as their own. The unedited quote is: "Don’t pick the ones [Bible verses] that say, ‘She should submit to me.’"
The Grayson campaign edited the original video, chopping it up and taking Webster's words out of context. Webster actually was advising husbands to bypass those particular Bible passages, according a longer video clip released Monday by Webster's campaign. It would be the equivalent of someone giving a speech saying "do not kill your neighbor" and then having someone cut it up and run only the words "kill your neighbor."
Remember, Alan Grayson is a rock star in Democratic Party circles, particularly among "progressives." Welcome to your modern Democratic Party.
Update: Uh oh. Grayson has managed to rile the normally tranquil TaxProf, The Most Despicable Political Ad. Ever.

Gee, where's all that outrage expressed by the liberals/progressives when Andrew Breitbart allegedly mistreated Shirley Sherrod by playing only an excerpt of a speech she gave?
ReplyDeleteIMAO had a funny comment about Grayson. It was something close to this: "Alan Grayson is basically what you would get if you take a random liberal internet troll and made him a senator."
ReplyDeleteObviously, he has no sense of dignity. He's just making up anything he can think of and going with it, not caring what it says about him. Apparently, it's worked for him so far. He either has no conscience or no morals, perhaps both.
ReplyDeleteAhh, the hypocrisy of the left. Like fall in the cotton-growing south (where the air is permeated with the sweet smell of defoliant) our nation is choking on the "stank" of hypocrisy. Deriding one's opponent on basis of their religious direction is the latest tactless operand of the Democrats. Nikki Haley is referred to as "Nimrata" on a daily basis here in SC, as is the fact that she was originally a Sikh that converted to Christianity is somehow a horrible sin. Why goodness me, let's go revisit Mister Obama's relationship with the good Reverend Jeremiah Wright, shall we? After all, fair is fair, right?
ReplyDeleteGrayson is an embarrassment to the people of Florida. I live in the Orlando area and we're well-acquainted with his brand of crazy, from Grayson demanding that the founder of mycongressmanisnuts.com (I think that's the URL) be jailed, to his wanting to plaster his name in giant neon letters on the side of the Lynx building next to I-4. I can only hope that the folks who elected him last time around will realize their mistake.
ReplyDeleteOK ... we agree that Grayson is a liar, and a Dem hero, and that this ad is just another example of what a dirtbag he really is. But ... have you considered that it is the Republican penchant for politicizing religion that makes Grayson's ad so easy for people to believe? That's why Grayson can capitalize so easily on The Big Lie. The Christian Right just can't seem to help but reduce God to the status of a political pawn. Frankly, I'd rather have Obama as president than a Baptist preacher whose priority is keeping God on our nickels. Well ... OK ... that's a bit extreme. How about "I'd rather have Hillary ...".
ReplyDeletePerhaps Floridians don't like scumbag liars any more than the rest of the country.
ReplyDeleteAccording to this poll, Grayson is down by 7 points to Webster. Karma is in the air.
Sorry. I forgot to include the url of the poll.

Maybe you could look into the matter just a bit deeper.
