Will Obama Deny Bill Ayers' Accusation?

Anne Leary from Illinois blogs at Backyard Conservative. I've had a lot of contact with Anne, mostly because of my interest in the Rod Blagojevich fiasco last winter. Anne strikes me as a completely straight shooter.

I felt an immediate connection to Anne because of the description she used to use on her blog as to why she started blogging: "This blog is a product of over 25 years of biting my tongue in polite society." A kindred spirit, for sure. Anne, if you are not going to use that phrase anymore, can I use it?

In a much publicized blog post yesterday, Anne wrote of her chance encounter with Bill Ayers (former Weatherman terrorist, and political enabler of Barack Obama) at Reagan National Airport. After reciting some of their initial conversation, Anne states that Ayers admitted he ghost authored Dreams From My Father:
Then, unprompted he said--I wrote Dreams From My Father. I said, oh, so you admit it. He said--Michelle asked me to. I looked at him. He seemed eager. He's about my height, short. He went on to say--and if you can prove it, we can split the royalties. So I said, stop pulling my leg. Horrible thought. But he came again--I really wrote it, the wording was similar. I said I believe you probably heavily edited it. He said--I wrote it. I said--why would I believe you, you're a liar.He had no answer to that. Just looked at me. Then he turned and walked off, and said again his bit about my proving it and splitting the proceeds.
Was Bill Ayers just causing some trouble with a tall tale sure to get people talking, or telling the truth to a stranger to get it off his chest? I don't know, but I do believe that Anne was accurate in telling what Ayers said.

Will Obama issue a denial of Ayers' accusation? Will the usually compliant press ask a real question for once? Probably neither, which is too bad.

I think we are entitled to know whose Dream it was, since we are living the nightmare now.

UPDATE: The issue is now definitively resolved because Bill Ayers e-mailed someone:
I e-mailed Ayers to see if he could shed any light on the story. His response: “You've all lost your minds,” he wrote. “Best of luck in the twilight zone.
Seems to me, Ayers is messing with everyone. Who is he accusing of "having lost" their "mind"? The person who e-mailed him, or the persons to whom he has made the accusation? One person (at least) knows for sure, but he's not talking.

  1. I've heard that suggestion and I'm not surprised that Dear Leader wasn't able to do it himself. From what I read, he put the general material together and Ayers wrote the syntax. While I think Ayers is a less than sterling character, he's articulate and is not the fool that his pupil is.

  3. Why would the press ask a question about something Ayers was joking about?

Anne even introduced herself by saying she was a conservative blogger and said she was photographing him, so he knew he was gonna be quoted, so he wouldn't make a confession if he was being quoted, and he hates conservatives, so he was just having some fun with her.

  4. That, coupled with the "Michelle and Barack" biography of a marriage information, should have a watchful media asking Robert Gibbs about it, but it won't.

Love the comment on "biting my tongue in polite society." I don't know a single conservative that doesn't have to do that on a regular basis, though I'm starting to believe that it's irresponsible to bite our tongues - look what you get.

  5. He did it. If you can't speak without a teleprompter you sure as hell can't write anything.

  6. Oh come on. Obviously Ayers was having fun at her expense, and yours, and anybody who actually thinks he wrote Barack Obama's memoirs. He only made this "revelation" after Backyard Conservative told him she was a conservative blogger and was going to post this. He was pulling her leg, and you are being played. Ayers is going to have a good chuckle over the next few days, laughing at how gullible conservatives are.

"I think we are entitled to know whose Dream it was, since we are living the nightmare now."

    Well played.

  8. Nearly spat out my coffee when I read the "since we are living the nightmare" line! HA! That's funny as hell.

  9. Yeah, stick with the "telepromper" meme wingnuts that's a sure winner for you loons.

The longer we go into Obama's Presidency the more PSYCHO the Reich-wing becomes.... I'm loving it.

  10. Nice turn of phrase "living the nightmare." I wonder how many conservatives realize or even vaguely respect the idea that so many of us felt precisely the same way about Bush and Reagan? And to be honest, much of the nightmare most of us are experiencing--in terms of an economic meltdown, increased racial tensions, unaffordable health care, etc.--are the responsibility of conservative politicians and pundits (among, let us be fair, plenty of others including the electorate itself).

Me, I'm bored with people trying to find fault with every word or action by President Obama, no matter how trivial. When people CHEER that the US lost its bid for the 2016 Olympics, and they heap scorn over what kind of mustard the President puts on his hamburger, I know there is zero chance of those individuals engaging in a rational debate.

Even his choice of mustard... amazing the degree of just bitter hate these anti-American nutters have.

  12. I spent 29 years of my life in the military and I did it to support the constitution and its people. I never could of guessed that a majority party and a President wanted to change our country to a socialistic state. The republicans are not blameless, but the democratic liberals are the worst enemies of America. They talk the talk with their promises to help the poor but they don't walk the walk because all they want is power and prestige while throwing a few scraps to the little people who follow. If you want equality and justice and care about your country, show up at the polls and vote these corrupt do nothings out of office. Start with Pelosi, Reid, Waxman, Boxer, Schumer, Franken, Jackson Lee, Sanderson,Burris, and the bunch that voted to keep ACORN funded. There are dozens more who denigrate the Congressional offices. Do not vote for people who can't compromise and support gridlock, like the queen of gridlock Speaker Nancy Pelosi. She should be impeached for the suffering her stupidity has brought to WE THE PEOPLE through her mismanagement of the House Speakers job. President Obama could do a good job if he could divorce himself from the radical liberals (Pelosi, Reid and Co.) These people have the Americans at each others throat hoping to become rulers of the American Socialistic Republic of America. We don't need to attack each other, we need to attack these do nothing Congress people who are taking us for a one way ride away from the constitution and our hard fought freedoms. Think about it.

  13. Why do right-wing vets brag about their military service?

Unlike Super-Duper American Patriots Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, Bill Krystol, Fred Barnes all of whom NEVER SERVED.

Guess what, I served too (the VA hospital here in Fresno sure has improved after the President Bush "cockroach and rat infested" VA hospital scandals!).

I don't brag about it because I volunteered and it was my duty.

You think being a vet gives you special rights over civilians?

Guess what again, here in AMERICA our military serves American civilians, not the other way around (keep dreaming about a military coup against President Obama, it's not going to happen).

Your and my military service was our DUTY.

You think using your service history as a blunt instrument against civilians gives you more power? Shame on you... it was your DUTY to serve.

Btw, that horrible Rev. Wright was a WWII vet.

Too bad, if you don't want to serve our Commander in Chief President Barack Obama then feel free to be courtmarshaled for TREASON against your country.

Sorry, the honor of serving in our American military does not mean exclusivity serving politicians you like or agree with.

Although you may be eligible for a Section 8 discharge.

  15. "When people CHEER that the US lost its bid for the 2016 Olympics, "

I think it was, in fact, good news, for several reasons:

    1. Many people believed that the Chicago games would have been a huge boondoggle for Illinois politicians and their cronies, with ordinary taxpayers being asked to foot the bill.

    2. It was apparent from their personal involvement in lobbying the IOC that the Obamas saw the Olypics as a huge opportunity for their own personal and political glorification. I for one didn't want to see the Olympics used in that way.

    3. It demonstrated quite plainly that the entire predicate of Obama's foreign policy -- the idea that he can charm foreign officials to do what America wants through the sheer force of his personality -- is completely flawed. The sooner America realizes this, the better, and if it ONLY takes losing out on the Olympics this time around to make that case to the American people, it's well worth it.

The transaction to your whole thesis is this:

You hate this President so much, on a deep and personal level that you are thrilled if America loses.

  17. I don't hate the President "on a deep and personal level." I just hate what he's trying to do.

And America doesn't lose by not getting the 2016 Olympics. Serving as host country is not necessarily a good thing when the true costs are factored in. (I'm sure this WAS a huge loss for all the Blagos and Rezkos that still run the show in Chicago, but that's another matter.) In any event, there will be other chances for the USA to host the Olympics (2020, 2024, etc.) -- assuming Obama doesn't destroy our country in the meantime.

  18. I am an outsider. What I see is a man who is a clown occupying the white house. He cannot manage a speech without a teleprompter, and the words on the teleprompter are most of the time not written by him. He cannot even manage to look straight into a camera. The body language says it all...

As the "revelation" by Ayers, well I am having an each way bet on the matter. Ayers is up to something. I think that it is probable that he was telling the truth but he wants to play a game and so he then responds: "are you crazy".

The work done by Cashill for example shows that there is a turn of phrase that is found in the book that is of the Ayers style - this might or might not be strong evidence on the fact that there was a ghost writer.

Is it important? Well many think it is not an important issue. I disagree with them for a few reasons, but the main one is that there is the claim that this book was written alone by Obama when in all probability it was written by a ghost writer. It is also important because Obama disavowed his association with Ayers during the election campaign.

Looking at this second point, which I do think is the main issue, if the book was ghost written by Ayers, then it means that Obama lied during the campaign when he disavowed his close association with Ayers. It is an indication of how far he will go for self-glorification.

If the book was in fact ghost written, it also indicates that much of the publicity about Obama was a smokescreen. For example, he was editor of the Law Review at Harvard, but there are people who were part of the Law Review at the time who have attested that he did nothing at the time. He had a job with a prestigious law firm in Chicago and it has also been stated by those who worked with him that he did nothing. Then there is the claim that he was a law professor when he was nothing more than a lecturer without tenure. There is the claim that he was a constitutional lawyer, yet all he lectured on was community organizing.

If you add these things together you get a very different picture of a man who has a very shadowy past.

  19. Just a comment on the Olympics: the people of Chicago have been saved from the cost blowouts that are inevitable. They have been saved from the enrichment of the cronies that would have gained significantly if Chicago had been nominated.

However, I do think that it was the turn of a South American country to stage the Olympics and that is what is important.
