Zelaya Backer Blames The Jews

Manuel Zelaya is supported by the Israel-bashing, Jew-baiting Hugo Chavez, who is teaming up with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran on a variety of fronts.

So this NY Times report about anti-Semitic comments by a prominent Zelaya supporter comes as no surprise:
Mr. [David] Romero, a host for Radio Globo, which supports the ousted President, Manuel Zelaya, said on Sept. 25: “There are times when I ask myself if Hitler was or was not correct in finishing with that race with the famous Holocaust. If there is a people that do damage in this country, they are Jewish, they are Israelis.”
Zelaya, according to The Times, has "sought to distance himself from anti-Semitism." This is the same Manuel Zelaya who just days ago blamed Israeli agents for targeting him, so Zelaya's "distancing" rings hollow, as The Times notes:
In phone calls to the media, Mr. Zelaya has charged that Israeli mercenaries had attacked the embassy with high-frequency radio waves and toxic gases. The de facto government has been criticized for such attacks, but there is no evidence of any Israeli involvement.
There are only about 100 Jewish families in Honduras, which just goes to show that you don't need Jews around to have anti-Semitism.

Will this be enough for the Obama administration to side with the constitutional government of Honduras (our ally, friend and supporter) against Zelaya and Chavez? Another "don't hold your breath on that one" moment, I'm sure.

  1. Why would Obama distance himself from anti-semites since when did it hurt his career to be partial to hate mongers?

  2. This situation is so much like what happened in Guatemala in 1980. Then, it was the Spanish embassy surrounded by the army because some rebels were holed up there. The army burned the embassy to the ground. The army's chief of staff, Benedicto Lucas Garcia, said "The Israeli soldier is a model and an example to us". Israel armed that regime because the U.S. congress blocked American arms to it.

In 1982, Christian fundamentalist nut Efrain Rios Montt took over, and he thanked Israel for putting him in power. He then carried out what the Truth Commission in Guatemala called "genocide" including slave labour camps designed by Israel, including mass forced conversions from Catholicism to Pentacostalism; Rios Montt said that the true Christian holds a Bible in one hand and a machine gun in the other. He said that the purpose of a state of emergency is "so we can kill legally." He said that he had to "drain the swamp" that sustains the rebels by killing and displacing all the civilians. All this was done with Israeli help.

While all this was happening Israel was in Honduras helping the former Nicaraguan National Guard in its bid to return to power in Nicaragua - the Contras. The gas being used to attack the Brazilian embassy is reportedly coming from one Yehuda Leitner - Israeli. An Israeli company also helped train Honduran death squads in the 1980s.

Considering Israel's history in Central America supporting the hard right, no one should dare cry "anti-Semite" when someone alleges that they are up to their usual tricks.
