Saturday Night Card Game (Progressives Devouring Their Own Tail)

This is the latest in a series on the use of the race card for political gain:

I previously wrote about accusations by Princeton Professor Cornel West that Obama was racist. Against blacks.

Now West lays into Obama again.  It speaks for itself, and is causing all sorts of liberal angst:

Joan Walsh, who has played and had the race card played on her, sums it up:
But there's a way in which this whole controversy looks like progressives devouring their own tail.
Indeed. This is what happens when you coddle and encourage false accusations of racism for political and website traffic purposes. When what went around comes back around, you really have no defense. If George Bush hated black people because (insert standard nonsense reason here), why not Obama? It's absurd, of course, but the natural result of the race card industry.

But I'm not going to get in the middle of it, defend it, criticize it, or otherwise. I'm just going to sit back and watch the show.

Pass the popcorn.

  1. When I read this a day or two ago, my first thought was, "This Joker is going to be the card dealt in this week's 'Saturday Night Card Game' on L.I."

So ... if "Professor" West says that President Obama himself is nervous or uncomfortable around "real" black folks, what does that say about the intellectual fad of multiculturalism?

LukeHandCool (whose swarthy slavic skin and teutonic highlights grant him good range on the color scale).

  2. It's a existential moment when fantasy crashes on the hard rocks of reality. The Democrats are beginning to run out of Other People's Money and those that expected largess are unhappy. In fact very large amounts of Other People's Money may start evaporating like rain in the desert. Great swaths of wealth are paper wealth and more than a little of that paper may turn out to be worth far less than people think. After all what do progressives really have to offer except failed Marxist dogma, redistribution of that OPM and grievance politics?

Is leftist unhappiness and malaise more generalized than just racial unhappiness? What will happen if, say, the great almost 100 year old leftist, socialist, Keynesian, progressive, multicultural project Europe melts down into a chaotic bankrupt mess? For Europe also is out of Other People's Money. Who will prevail? The left, the right? What lessons will be drawn, who will write the history, what will emerge? Europe is the Democrat's and the American left's ideal state. How will it effect us?

That time may be very near.

    What happens when Greece defaults

  3. I was wondering how they were going to try to distance themselves from the "first black president" not giving in to the Congressional Black Caucus, etc., on the "black issues" front. Question is: will they still vote for him?

My hope is "no" but my gut says "yes". When will African-Americans wake up and see that the Democrats are the WORST thing that ever happened to them? It's modern-day slavery, straight up. I believe even Herman Cain has said as much. More are seeing it..... This Dr. West is an example, of sorts.

On Rush the other day an African-American caller from the Deep South said none of his friends who voted for him before won't be voting for him again. Their reason: no free stuff. The expected "Obama money" to be spread around - to them. So sad. But I hope the DON'T vote for the Fraud. But when will the eyes open to what's being done to them, rather than for them?

I guess when Jesse and Al stop making $$$ off of the race-baiting, and when the Democrats run out of $$$ to buy their votes.

  4. Really, I was thinking that ex-Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-GA) was going to make a late run for this, appearing as she did on Libyan state television and Iranian state television to denounce President Obama and US foreign policy.

  5. It gives me some pleasure to see the Left hoisted upon its own racial petard. If you don't do the work, you don't get the reward (knowing, working, understanding black people and their problems). I was most worried about the desire to expiate our sins through the political process.

I don't agree with most of West's political philosophy and at times comical persona, but he is on the ground trying to bring out the better in black folks. The young black men loosed for generations from the concern, care, discipline, moral judgment, moral inclusion, opportunity, respect and jobs of the culture they forcibly were made to live in.

Yeah, they now have more access and opportunity...they have free will...they need fathers to stick around...but at least West is going into the rough areas and looking the worst of it in the face (from the towers of Princeton anyway, on his rap album).

  6. Agree with Viator that OPM seems like a root cause in what's going around.

Thanks for the Telegraph link, pithy!

  7. '...when the Democrats run out of $$$ to buy their votes."

Print some more, raise the debt ceiling. Why, they are already doing that. They have run out of our money for a while. We have to reconcile to the fact that "we" voted for them to loot us and our children. There are enough of "us" who want to sponge on other people to return them to office.

  8. The main problems faced by the black community today are education and jobs, which are in fact the problems faced by everyone. The president has claimed to support improving the abominable education prospects of young black men, but actually has sacrificed their interests in favor of the teachers' unions. For example he actually tried to kill the DC scholarship program.
The President also favors condoning illegal immigration. The illegal immigrants come prepared to work hard and have been crowding young black men out of the entry level jobs they need to learn the discipline and drive necessary to succeed, which most of them fail to learn in school. The low interest rates that this administration has prolonged encourages investors to keep their money abroad, and that along with heavy government borrowing reduces the funding available for new endeavors. Also if an American company keeps money abroad it pays only foreign taxes on its earnings, but it must pay more tax if it brings it home. This encourages them to invest abroad rather than here at home.
All of these policies keep employment in this country down and hurt young black males the most. So West is right about Obama, though his claim that he is in the pocket of big business is not the reason for that.

  9. I agree with Cornel West!

Obama IS the oligarchy's man. Unfortunately most of my right wing friends seem to be in denial that there even IS an oligarchy.

  10. Daniel:

I don't know if you meant to have an exhaustive list when you said "education and jobs," but I'd include "the broken family" in that list too. And that is, to me, the saddest of the government-imposed problems in the black community. If Detroit or Philadelphia is the example of what the black community can look forward to under Democratic governance, there truly is no hope for that community. No surprise there: point to successful socialism anywhere in the world. It just doesn't exist.

  11. They will all kiss and make-up in time for the election. By that time the Repub nominee becomes the "devil" and people will be implored to vote Dem or the world is gonna come to an end.

  12. Has he mainstream media picked up on the comment that Alan Colmes made on Fox News on May 21, that a Herman Cain-Alan West Presidential ticket is "cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs?"

Can you imagine if a Republican had used "Cocoa Puffs" as a derogatory reference to a Black person?
