Embattled Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich announced today, through a spokesman, that he will not be resigning on Monday, December 15, 2008, as some have speculated. The 15th is the day the Illinois legislature is supposed to consider articles of impeachment supported by Illinois Speaker of the House Michael Madigan, and the Illinois Supreme Court may take up the request by Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan for a temporary restraining order stripping Gov. Blagojevich of his executive powers.
As we have pointed out, the last thing the Illinois legislature wants is a full blown impeachment trial at which all the dirty laundry -- including their own -- will be aired. Similarly, Attorney General Madigan has boxed the State into a fiscal corner by her long-shot motion to the Supreme Court.
Maybe Gov. Blagojevich will take our advice and fight it out. At least through Monday.
