Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates has warned in a secret three-page memorandum to top White House officials that the United States does not have an effective long-range policy for dealing with Iran’s steady progress toward nuclear capability, according to government officials familiar with the document. For once, a NY Times' disclosure of highly classified information actually tells us nothing more than we already knew. The Obama administration's weak, apologetic, and amateurish approach to Iran has failed.
Several officials said the highly classified analysis, written in January to President Obama’s national security adviser, Gen. James L. Jones, touched off an intense effort inside the Pentagon, the White House and the intelligence agencies to develop new options for Mr. Obama. They include a revised set of military alternatives, still under development, to be considered should diplomacy and sanctions fail to force Iran to change course.
From the campaign promise of negotiations without precondition, to the near silence when Iran erupted with protests last June over election fraud, to the setting of meaningless deadlines, to the false crisis with Israel over East Jerusalem, to the apology tours, at every step this administration has sent the wrong messages to Iran and the world.
The result of this failure will be military action or capitulation.

Obama does have a strategy to stop Iran. He is going to keep sending them youtube videos until they get so sick of him that they kill themselves.

ReplyDeleteCongratulations. Clarity. How foreign to the Obami.
Is it just me or is it odd to see the NYT print a memo of this nature?
ReplyDeleteMy question is... what does Obama gain by having this kind of thing "leaked." Is he looking for approval to invade?
Just thinking out loud. But... the NYT is too much of a tool of the Administration to be publishing this without their approval.
Instead of alienating our true allies, Obama should be pulling them together to present Iran with a solid front, REAL sanctions, and dire consequences if it becomes necessary, and it most likely will. Has he ever heard of the term 'preemptive'?
ReplyDeleteThere is no effective policy because Obama doesn't want one. Look at how he moved heaven and earth to get "healthcare reform." What DIDN'T he do to get it. So we know he will do what is necessary to get what he wants. And that was with more than half the country and the entire republican party against him. In this case, he would have most of the republican party and the country WITH him. So, clearly there is something about a nuclearized Iran that doesn't worrry Obama, indeed, I submit, there is something about it that actually appeals to him.

ReplyDeleteSometimes, as rrpjr suggests but does not say, Obama does seem to be some sort of Manchurian Candidate put in place to subordinate the USA to an international cabal led by the UN or perhaps an even more hapless hopeless NGO such as the Trilateral Commission wearing purple and pink.
I am not surprised by this "revelation". But what options, pray tell, does Obama have here? There's continuing the obviously ineffective escalation of sanctions, starting a 3rd war in the region with an already overstretched military, and negotiating - aka capitulation. I certainly have no problem with attacking Obama's policies, but only when I have a viable alternative.
