The Big Smear

You know the Democrats are sensing a loss of momentum, and increasing resistance to their plans to ram through changes the American people do not want, because they have brought out the big smear that opposition to Barack Obama is racist.

The most pathetic is TPM, in its post Obama-Haters Becoming Increasingly...Racial In Their Rhetoric which uses a small number of questionable anecdotes to smear all opposition to Obama's policies and plans. For example, TPM claims that the focus on Reverend Jeremiah Wright during the campaign was a reflection of white racism. Yes, once again criticising Jeremiah Wright's anti-white rhetoric is used to smear critics as being anti-black. Needless to say, other pro-Obama blogs and usual suspects are picking up on the charge as well.

This is typical of the use of "Race" As Political Weapon during the campaign. It is pathetic, transparent, and ultimately counter-productive.

The American people are seeing through the ridiculous media bubble and false promises which resulted in Obama's election and a Democratic sweep of Congress. This awakening has nothing to do with race, as Nancy Pelosi's unpopularity far exceeds that of Obama.

The use of the race card -- while it may be effective at times -- is not going to change the political dynamic this time. We've been there, done that.

  1. I hope you are right that the American people will not fall for this racist B.S. again. It was such a difficult thing to witness during the Dem primaries. they basically used the race card to excoriate anyone who questioned Obama's experience or intentions.

That drove me from the party I have been a member of my whole voting life, BTW. But... so many Dems fell for it. And still do.

I am not sure we can stop the race card from doing our country harm yet again.

  2. Whatever happened to "no whining in politics?"

I guess that only applies to Sarah Palin when misogynists attack.

  3. I can't help but notice that conservatives always win when the debate is about policy. No wonder liberals prefer to talk about anything else.

  4. Obama's poll numbers are falling, the honeymoon is over, the big push for health care is running into hard public opposition, the stimulus bill is being viewed as a bad joke, and that's after only six months.

The left's response will increasingly be a nasty, bitter one: witness Maxine Waters' attack on the Blue Dogs and Rahm Emmanuel for recruiting them! (How she thinks the Dems got or can keep a majority is a mystery.) The line that opposing Obama is racist will figure ever more prominently in comments from the left, as the political atmosphere for them gets worse. The real question is whether Obama is stupid or tin-eared enough to stoke this fire himself -- as he did, perhaps unwittingly, in his slap at the Cambridge police.

  5. The view from people that I met in the USA was as much anti-Pelosi as it was anti-Obama. Yes there are many who do not like Obama and his policies. It is not about his race, it is about how he has used subterfuge and has lied his way into the position of POTUS.

  6. @John - what he said about the Cambridge policeman carrying out his job was really bad because it showed that Obama is the racist who hates whitey.
